Moore Park kids boost cancer funds By ASTRA Herald Staff Writer These kids could put adults to shame with their display of Illative and community minded spirit They have taught many of their parents and neighbors that they should never underestimate the cap abilities and the go get cm attitude kids have These sentiments were echo ed many limes during the carnival organized and held for the second year by a group of seven Moore Park children to raise funds for a worthy cause A Avenue backyard was transformed Thursday morning Into a mini fair com plate with garnet refresh ments and plain good old for those who cared to join In Over forty neighborhood child ren and a few grownups who managed to sneak In were treated to a wide range of games testing their skill and luck Tickets were five cents apiece and entitled the young pin knock over tin cans go fishing or play bingo Prizes offered to the talented and just plain lucky winners were chocolate bars and McDonalds vouch ers The result of he fourhour extravaganza was a hefty cheque for the Canadian Cancer Society The seven organizers rang in age from six to 13 first got caught up In the fund- raising spirit last summer when they saw the arrival of Terry Fox and Ins Marathon of Hope In Hilton Hills They were also Impressed by how the residents of Hal ton Hills opened their hearts and con tributed to Canadian Cancer Society coffers Not to be outdone the child ren felt that they should do something to contribute to the community fund raising effort Ten year old Jane Campbell said that they had wanted to organize a circus last year but had problem getting acts together Jane said that they had already seen the ads at McDonald urging children to organize their own carnivals and they got the ball rolling from there Last summer they held their carnival and raised for the muscular dystrophy association This year a carn ival seems to have been a much greater success with the organizers almost quadrupling the final amount raised Not many fund raising campaigns can boast of such an increase All the organizers agreed that holding the carnival was a lot of fun for them but that belles the fact that a lot of hard work and behind the scenes organization was in volved before the big event They spent a month and a half pooling their talents and doing promotional work Not only did they make their own flyers but they also distributed them to almost all the home In the Moore Park area and even prompted tome of the areas merchants to display posters promoting the They also contacted several businesses to help with the
