Softball In the Industrial league The swiftska ling forward has one of the best shota in the Intermediate A league He returned last year to the Raiders after his stint with pro hockey and has since Dave Kentncr nays the Raider of the Month award Is given to piny en who contribute more to the team than Just statistics However even In the stats department McFadyen has excelled scoring nine goals and eight assists In Just seven games He Is currently ninth in In the league says attitude attendance and his play which Kentncr describes as be more relaxed has contributed to the important structure of the club says Gary offers both sides when offering opinions Coach Gerry has noticed the Improved play of McFadyen and said recently that his desire and hustle has to rub off on the other especially McKenzle for most Raider power play goals this season Industrial hockey Wilson edges Norval 54 Ontario Outdoors Muskies feeding Muskelunge The big news is still big Muskle fishing is getting belter with the Indian summer weather It Is pleasant to fish the muskies are reeding well hence the fishing Is productive heavy feeding time for the fish makes it an excellent time to be on the water The duck hunting in the areas that muskie fishing is done makes It a twofold sportsmen s paradise There la also some good goose shooting in the Georgian Bay area and Honey Harbour is great Moon basin and the adjacent islands of Georgian Bay are producing lots of fish Including Walleye Muskle and Bass Many flights of ducks are coming In to wellplaced blocks of decoys and the occasional confidence decoy of a gull or other bird is always a great addition to your spread Remember hat bass head for wanner water such as shoals when the sun is up They need the warmth that the shallows provide and the food they seek does also Walleye took for slow moving food at this time of year and a salamander is top bait now A recent article showing the infamous Bill Johnson nailing up a No hunting sign was very misleading Put that knows what they are talking about know that no rifles are allowed in the area In question The idea that Johnson is NOT opposed to the hunt Is a new one on me and the statement by Raccoons do more damage to crops than deer Is sheer stupidity POACHER PROBLEM Poachers are a real problem as has been mentioned here several times This writer has been after more conservation officers in the field for years and can not even get deputized Poachers are not hunters they are plain thieves No more no less am should be apprehended as thieves The sooner people call a poacher a thief and not a hunter the sooner we will have a better understanding Of what a hunter is and may even get more enforcement In the field Regular police officers should be trained to handle poachers and the number of officers increased In order not to over burden the force If the Ministry of Natural Resources would allow the deputation of citizens that are willing to be trained we would have another united front against theft of our natural resources Personally I would feel much better when confronting a law breaker If I was carrying a deputy badge and would be willing to invest my own time and money to get education and training the ministry feels I need for this responsibility The hunt clubs In Quebec were out in force last weekend The Quebec authorities allowed a day season on does and fawns The clubs reacted to this newt even though it was the first such allowed since On club properly no does or fawns were allowed to be taken and members stopped all other hunters they could reach in order to convince them It was wrong TURKEY SHOOT There will be a turkey shoot sponsored by the Georgetown volunteer firefighters Dale is Nov for the first and Nov for the second The well known Bishops Pit on the Ninth Line of Glen Williams Is the location Make the time now to head out to support the firefighters Dick runs the ministry sponsored Hunters Safety course and now I have this news there is no need to send people all the way over to Bolton The courses are held at the Peel County Game farm property on Heart Lake Road in Brampton Usually a group of persons will get a course scheduled and the registration may be done by catling the in Cambridge or by calling Dick at Mr Simpson is on the board of directors of the Peel County Game Farm where there arc about members Thanks for the call news la always appreciated by myself and my readers FRENCH IMMERSION THE BOARD OF Applications aia no being rchrd for Qrado 1 and Froncti Immersion Programs starling In September Informal scores of 153 and 155 Coach Grant commented that both teams seemed to be playing poorly and the Rebs were making too many unaccountable mis takes This win advanced the team to the semi finals which pitted them against Nelson High School In a match Continued on Page B3 game played very well and Blake Harrison had several long runs during the game and throughout the season The entire defense Is as also having a fine season A much Improved record of three w I a three I oases did not qualify Georgetown for the finals The key factor In this the closeness of Trafalgar Blake lock and Georgetown in standings The standings were close enough that Georgetown needed to lose by a maxl mum of two points or win in a game against and they would be In the ploy but they lost by more than the required amount Overall the team worked hard and had some fun and had a belter season than the last few years said Bingham Doug Thompson continued his scoring spree at the Industrial league current scoring
