Johnson dance pair sixth at Skate Canada competition Kris Barber of Glen Williams and parincr Kelly Johnson of Wlllowdale improved their showing from their Si performance three weeks ago as Ihey skated lo a sixth place finish In the Skate Canada International Skating competition last weekend The dance pair were the lop Canadian pair finish and according to Barber the duo did very well the point where they felt Ihey could have been the top cot tenders at the competition However a slow start during the competition forced the dance team to play catch up which easy lo do under the Judging system Although Kris said he and Kelly coutdn t have skated much better he admitted they will have to work harder at their com pulsar which held them down in the com pel I lion He and Kelly skated more consistently than they d d three weeks ago St Ivel he says Overall the Canadian team were one point out of first place which eventually went to the American team in an art featured in the Globe and Mall last team a Can idlnn skating coach downgraded the system of judging by Canadian Judges which are not consistent wllh European methods Bernard I- said in the Globe article that skating ability is overlooked by Canadian Judges and that everyone gels with choreography movements of the upper body interviewed last Monday night Barber said that he was bind someone f spoke out against the Canadian method of judging He feels that a winning dance pairs team should try and reich a happy medium In their skating Barber and Johnson will be off to Japan Nov for their next International skating event and the duo should do well because there is no compulsory events At the of January the dance pair will enter the Canad an pionshlps which they have an automatic GDHS heads for volleyball crown Kris Barber ByliARALDBRANSCH Herald Correspondent The senior boys volleyball team advanced to the volleyball championships by winning both their quarter and semi final matches against Burlington Central and Nelson High Schools Last Tuesday in a home game against Burlington Central High School the Rebels wrapped up their match in three games straight with scores of 155 and Coach Grant Clatworlhy commented that both seemed to be playing poorly and the were making too many unaccountable mis takes This win advanced the team to the semi finals which pitied them against Nelson High School In a match which provided stronger competition the Rebels won after four games in a best of five game match with scores of 1SB 156 and 15 9 The second and first games were played very well by Georgetown ALPINE AD COUNTRY The Hills Recreation Department In conjunct ion with the Ontario Ski Council will be presenting Information on waxing clothing equipment and skiing techniques The even ng workshop will also include movies displays literature on local ski areas for both downhill and cross country as well as lesson Information for 199t and refreshment Expert on both downhill and cross THIBAULT Herald Special The United I- ire Safety Minor Pec Vtees won both their games this week the first a regular league game against Brampton the second an exhibition game against Acton On Oct Brampton got on the scoreboard only seconds into the game but Jason Arnold and Pot Mc Carthy chalked up each a goal In the first period to lead it 1 into the period Brampton scored twice late In the second and early in the third period to take a 32 lead but from then on it was Georgetown game John Lor to scored Pat McCarthy scored this second of the night and Trent Burton also scored to give Georgetown four unanswered goals In the third period them short handed to finalize the score at for Georgetown The exhibition game In Acton on Oct had the up on board first again this time in the second period after a scoreless first period Georgetown then tallied to tic score but the whole game was a seesaw battle with one team scoring followed closely by the other team evening up the score Only with 1 minute 19 seconds left In the game and the score tied at three did Georgetown score again and assure themselves win The game was paced by Davin Ciglen who scored twice and singles went to
