stronger and more ambitious executive the Halton Hills gymnastics Jilis nave made 1082 a landmark for gymnastics in Georgetown and Acton The Jills gymnastics club have hired Jennifer Reynolds a Former reation Coordinator with the Town of Hills as their Program Inator to oversee the club expansion Tram gymnasia to what could be as many as The Jills are getting ready to take over the Recreation Deportment run programs in the area of gymnastics starting in September Since 1916 it was the club every Intention to develop a separate gym nasties Identity to the Recreation Department programs but the two groups remained linked Reynolds said HEAD COACH Originally the Jills ex under the direct ion of Roger Roy wanted to hire a head coach but it was found that a more I position was required two coaching certificate program at Seneca college and she is a level two gymnastics coach Scott Kline Is a member of the GDHS gymnastics team In the competitive coaching group Is Ruth Aggiss Jennifer Reyn olds and Jennifer Pepper The precompetillve girls will be looked after by Jill Clifford who is a second year coach a judge and a physical education major the University of Western Ontario The recreation classes will run from September until Christmas for the first 10 week session The class will be held for the Recreational classes in the Rose Room Mem or Arena Georgetown Georgetown District High School Acton High School tentative and McKen lieSmith Public School In Acton AGE AND ABILITY The programs which are offered each night are one hour and half in length The participants are grouped into ago and ability There Is a warm up period a time to use the equipment and then a final games period to round out the program Reynolds said she is hoping to use progress reports to more closely monitor a child so that it will be easier to tell them when to move on and to keep the parents Informed The progress report is a more positive step than adopting a level system Reynolds said The coaching ration will remain at one coach for every seven gym Reynolds said The Jills gymnastics club will hold free work from to at the Rose Room Memorial Arena In Georgetown on Mill Street The free workouts are open to any gymnast wanting to limber their muscles in preparation for August 31 and September to pm same location The free workouts are also intended for those who want to try the equipment to see If they would tike to take a class COMMITTMENT The competitive Jills group practise from Sept ember to June and only girls who are willing to com ml It themselves for a whole year team ended their season after losing two games to one against in playoff action on the weekend After winning the first game of their three scries against Chippawa the Eagles went down Saturday and 104 Sunday Coach Kevin Burke said after the weekend games that the boys wercn yet used to type of press Involved In playoff hardball The team now plans four exhibition games against St Catharines and Thorold before the season winds down com for the local under year old hardball club or the Eagles was their first year of llllon in the very live Niagara and District league Both coach Burke and Junior Eagles Rep hard ball club has seen his dream fulfilled after a season of competitive ball and he ready to come back next season for more was instrumental in help ing to set he wheels in motion when he coach Kevin Burke and several other members of Ihe team lobbied for heir own junior club lost summer After talks with the Georgetown Association Ihe Ontario Baseball Association and the Recrea tht to develop into a reality Through Ihe summer last year prospective Eagle players such as Gerry Milne and Kevin Hughes sold raffle tickets and Raider programs to raise money for Ihe r first season which started last Mike Is a product of thcGBA minor ball system which he started at the tyke age He sold neither his mom or dad were baseball fans because ey came from England but every boy on his street was a baseball player so he Joined up with a team too Mike ployed up to pcewee age level and then he quit baseball for a year to umpire His Interest was waning in he sport until he began playing for Kevin Burke bantam a Itstar squad The team was made up of tho four best players from each of the bantam house league teams The all stars practised more than the house league players and soon found themselves wanting belter competition to challenge them When Kevin Burke coached the all stars the team often averaged 12 noon to 4 p m practices right up until November said THREE PER WEEK This year with the Eagles the practices tapered off to about three per week plus games he said Mike says that he still likes going to practices commending coach Burke for his work with the team If it wasn for Mr Burke wo know what we were doing None of us were as good when we began as wo are he said The grade thirteen student at Georgetown District High School Is enrolled In the Institute Radio and Television Arts program in Toronto where he starts studies in September During the summer when he t throwing the ball around at the ballpark Mike was working as a house painter and landscape in
