Georgetowns Air Cadet Squadron Join ed 31 other Canadian Cad- els earlier summer and changed a few notions Europeans have about Canadians Considering there are several hundred Air Cad ets across Canada IByear old Elizabeth was one of the few lucky ones to participate in Iho annual International Air Cadets Exchange an event which brings together young people from all over he world who share a keen Interest In aviation There were IB Cadets In her group she told The Herald recently three Canadians two Norweg ians two Swedes three Israelii and eight Ameri cana Hills only representative on the trip Elizabeth left July IS for a thrilling three- week learn ing adventure which took her from Paris to the Pyrenees the northern Mediterranean coast and a couple of air force bases In Germany SAW PLANES The program was real ly directed at people who have an interest In aviat ion she laid We got a chance to see some of the military planes and do a little gliding One particular highlight of he trip she recalled was getting a eye view of the Pyrenees which rise like Jagged teeth separating France and Spain Miss Groskorth was especially Impressed by the organization of the tour which ran as smooth as clockwork There were so many people besides travelling as part of Ihe exchange she said the organizational problems must have been stagger ing EIGHT DAYS Eight days were spent In southern France and six In Paris Across the Alps exchange participants vis ited Canadas Air Force Base and the Amer ican Main base There were so many people there I in Germany that we occupied four floors of the Holiday Inn In Frankfurt Miss Gros said When the Cadets and their counterparts were nt buzzing the countryside In airplanes they were getting together at various receptions learning about each others clubs or squadrons Miss was also busy prac tising her French end dispelling a few pre conceived notions about Canada and Its new Const itution something she said Europeans found rather puzzling That was the best part of the trip meeting people People would ask us things about our country and ask them about theirs think there were some lasting frlendsiapa formed TAKEOFF To quality for Ihe trip Miss had to submit an application list ing her school academic record extracurricular activities and post exper ience with the Air Cadets With those soundly en dorsed by Air Cadet offic ials she was interviewed by six Air force officials before cleared for take off Other Canadian Cadets went to the United King dom the and scattered throughout Eur ope Meanwhile travellers from the other side
