back it again for another season This past week started off with the Day Ladles holding open house on Tuesday and Thursday It seemed a lot of us did not keep In shape over the summer There were a lot of grunts and groans The Business Girls held their open house last Wednesday evening and we welcomed some new curlers The Business Girls competitive team consisting of Peggy Darmody Sharon Wood and Joan Trimble were active this weekend They attempted to qualify for a spot in the Toronto Major League defeating St Catharines but lost out to Dixie and Humbcr Highland The Mixed Schedule got under way on Friday night with draws at and p Sunday we held a Curl Canada Clinic for beginners as well as instruction for 1 year curlers Eighteen attended the clinic and things ran smoothly it all together and to her helpful Instructors Doug Collison Joan Mary Black and Shirley The full schedule gets underway this week with the Mens draw on Monday night and mens competitive on Tuesday night The Day Ladles drawl will start this Tuesday and Thursday afternoon Theladlescompetltivewill be holding a meeting and team practice on Tuesday morning The Juniors schedule begins on Sunday at Upcoming dates defends eighth Halton crown By JACK HARLOW Herald Special Rebel cross coun try team won tbe County Championship last Wednesday at Kelso for Its eight consecutive In addition to claiming the overall school title Georgetown was first in both the overall girls and overall boys categories and took four firsts and two second places of tbe six team divisions Two Rebel learns the senior girts and midget boys had perfect scores of ten points where runn ers from one team finish in places of first second third and fourth There were also three dual winners from Georgetown Susan Knstensen plac ed first in the senior girls race Mike Wood took the medal In the midget boys race and Erik Hopkins won the junior boys race The fields of runners were very small at Hal tons and the compe tition wasnt nearly the calibre as at some meets held earlier in the season in Toronto The Rebels did prove however that they are still the best in County taking home of a possible 36 medallions awarded POURING BAIN All races were run under very windy while some were also run in the pouring rain In the midget girls race of 22 competitors Nancy Mustard led the team to victory with a solid second place finish Also contributing toward the team a win of 15 points was Amy Powers placing a strong third Anne Coullghan was next In fourth place followed by Sandy in sixth Linda Laura and Michelle Barnard came in for positions of tenth and 12th respective- Heidi Buykes was and Whitney Grelg placed The Junior girls team met strong com petition from Nelson high school who won totalling points Georgetown took second place scoring 31 points ahead of Milton in third Lynn Macphall was the first Rebel runner to cross the line in the race which featured runn crs by placing third Fiona in for fifth and Shawn placed ninth They were followed by Kelly Roe Karen Pepper Paula Hansen and Anne Ramsay KRI5TENSEN FIRST In a classic race Susan Knstcnsen led the senior girls through the pouring rain to a perfect len- victory by placing first Sandra Marclmuk fallowed In second place in containing 19 runners She in turn was followed by Debbie roan third Kim New combe fourth Jen Pepper fifth and Cheryl Thorn peon seventh The girls score of ten points obliterated second place Nelson s which was 39 points distant The midget boys also turned in a perfect score of ten points calculated by adding the positions Also running were Norm Macphail In and Graham Shepherd finishing Milton was the second place trailing threateningly by points HOPKINS FIRST Erik Hopkins was the third Individual George town winner of the day as he led his team to victory placing first in the Junior boys race A runner from Missis sippi placed second and spoiled a possible third Powerful Blakelock wins By DOLGLAS Herald Correi pendent TA Blakelock came on strong lost Friday in their game against the George town High School senior football team Blakelock a very powerful team relumed the opening kickoff on a fake return for a of the second Field hockey girls quash Perdue 20 By PAM DOUGLAS Herald Correspondent In their last game prior to the semi finals and finals life senior girls field hockey team from Georgetown High School quashed Perdue The game went score less for the first half Jones then scored two goals in the second half to shut out Perdue The Rebels were in the semifinals and finals last Wednesday in and they went on to the Champl which were held Monday against Perdue Their first game on Wednesday was against Lord Elgin The Rebels knocked them out Michelle Richmond made one goal on a penalty corner and Jones added the other Georgetown coach Ruth thought one of the likely contenders in the finals would be MM Robinson but Robinson was checked by Assam p- The senior Rebels then trounced Georgetown made three fantastic goals in the first half of their game against Anybodys game It was anybody gome as the Georgetown High School junior girls basketball team met Trafalgar In a home game last week The score was close throughout the game but the Rebels were eventually Georgetown Kelly Gordon and Mlchele Kccss contributed and eight points respectively but the Rebels weakness proved to be foul shots They missed IB out of fouls during the game They all worked very hard said Rebel coach Mrs Spina They gave it their all The Rebel team practises every night Monday to Friday and they are no jv focusing their attention on improving their foul shots in preparation for their next game The Rebels will gain more practice this Saturday when they attend a tournament in Acton on They were playing excellent field hockey said coach scoring came from the entire team and every one assisted she said Elaine Hughes and Roberta Burke each put one In and Denean Jones assisted by Loralea Jefferson and Linda made two goals The Juniors experienc ed a different kind of victory Wednesday They were slotted In with senior teams because there Is no junior league in the county They lost to A lock and Robinson In both games the or Rebels came close to winning and that said coach was their real victory Blakelock scored an early goal taking the first game 10 Robinson beat the Juniors Rebel Pam in net stopped a penalty flick against her and the team scored a goal which was disqua lified Itbadbcenshotone inch outside the circle Coach said the junior girls have good skills and this was the best game they have ever played half Blakelock scored another touchdown There were a few bright spots in the Rebels offen sive play At one point they were down to the four yard line but the officials called a recover ed fumble In Blakelocks favor The Rebels say that it was not a fair call Georgetown baa been on losing streak so they wont to win next weeks game against Perdue and there is a chance that they will said coach Bingham The team has been playing a little better They got tricked on a couple of things he said but lack of experience compared to other teams Is a major factor The Rebels last game against Perdue was a 1912 loss for Georgetown perfect score for George town as the next three positions went to Rebel runners In the race of runn ers Chns was third Paul Watte was fourth and Dave Banks came fifth Following were Ken Hesse tenth Nick Parker and Dan Stewart The senior boys course which was metres was in actuality about a half mile further in length than that which was reported SENIORS SECOND The senior boys team had their best placing yet this year taking second la the standings behind a team from Nelson As most Georgetown teams did had their first four runn- among the top ten positions which quite enough since Nelson also had four runners the top ten with their first two runn ers placing first and second The Georgetown team was without the services of one of its top runners Scott Harris who was at the time recovering from walking pneumonia Stacey Wheeler was the first Rebel runner to cross the line in the race of 38 competitors placing fifth Behind him came tn seventh and Jack Harlow in eighth Bob Lovegrove a fust year junior ran very well placing tenth Following were Gary Bntton in and Dalton recovering from an Injury in The Rebels arc at Heart Lake
