Amy Powers Is one of Georgetown cross country runners who feels that this competing year is going to be tough Powers a 16yearold Grade 11 student at Georgetown District High School has been running cross country since the fourth grade Besides running she also competes for the GDHS track team Powers feels the teach and coaches will push the team harder this year due to the fact that the 1381 provincial championship meet will be held here In George town in November But she also feels it will give the GDHS team an ad vantage because they may get the opportunity o practise on the track prepared for this year Ontario Federation of Secondary School Asso ciation meet Powers herself has competed at OFSAA crosscountry events for the past two years At her first meet she placed fifth and this past year she placed 30th My goal this year she said is to do well at OFSSA and place better than last year During the summer Powers trained about twice a week with the team During the year she trains an hour dally at the school Besides after school training she practises on her own Powers says she runs about to miles a week as well as swimming and playing league soccer She says training can get tough because It takes up a lot or time Sometimes It can really affect your school work especially when you are missing days of school to compete But besides all the vigorous training Powers finds It worth her while I don especially enjoy all that training but it is something you have to do But I have fun at the meets and in the end I find all that training worth while good game backed with Tammy play ing a good defensive game and Donna Peacock having a good night along with Linda Anderson having a good night at bat nately the game was called due to darkness in the middle of the sixth inning so the eight runs for the Runners count However Marilyn Jones got a homer along with two singles Sue MacDonald went four for four at tho plate Kim Marcll did a great job of pitching GOLD STARS With a good effort by the entire team the Gold Stirs edged out in this close game Luralne Tarzwell and Susie Williams both played a great game for the Stars Debbie Barber and Lor did a super job of pitching eked by a good team effort by the Nuns In this high scoring game GREEN GIANTS 10 In a gruelling tight contest again the steady pitching tandem of Judy Anderson and Jean Puckering kept tht game close until Joanne Coles started leading the team at plate with several deep blasts But the play of the game was registe red by Cole with a leaping game saving catch and subsequent double play The Choice were back in full force this week and made the Giants work to earn the win A homer by Molly Moore and great pilch by and Donna made it a Tine finish to the season TORNADOES BRATS Jeannie David and Joyce both hit home runs to lead the Tornadoes past the Brats also having a good night at the plate was Sharon and Hamilton who also play well defensively Colleen made some key catches In will be played at 30 p Friday night Nine games will be played on Saturday starting at a m On Sunday four more games will be played starting at 10 a m with the championship game going at on Diamond Walker leads Warriors Jason Walker had two goals as Warriors defeated Killer Falcons in GYSC Atom Boys soccer play this week David Frost Steve Melykuty Steve Smith David Jackmon and Jonathan Bums
