Legion kicks off Diamond Jubilee with gala parade The drums will be beating out a marching beat June as a parade celebrating the Royal Canadian Legions birthday its way downtown Georgetown Pride in our past faith in our future is the theme of the Legions Diamond Jubilee parade taking place at Branch 120 has been preparing for this inaugural parade since September 1964 and has Invited other area groups take part in the parade Expected guests include The Guards Association of North America London Police Color Party and London Police Pipe Band the army cadets Squadron air cadets and many dignitaries Taking place at the same time as the annual Pioneer Dajs celebration by downtown Georgetown merchants parade will be an added bonus for Pioneer Days shopper The Legions veterans of past wars and their will start out from Park Public School and proceed down Princess Anne Street Charles Street to James Street to Main Street to Church Street to Charles Street and back to the school Parade organiser Herb Arnold says here could be up to participants in the parade Therell be lots of flags at least six Three day event sections of them and lots of color he promises A video film is being produced of the parade for the library historical archives In honor of this 60th anniversary of the Legion there have been bright red tulips from Holland for sale at the Legion hall on Mill Street As welt there are competitions being arranged for crib darts euchre baseball hockey and curling fans To celebrate the occasion the Legion is organizing dances and dinners through the and a book The Diamond Plateau is being published A historical record of Branch 120 the book will be sold to the community once its off Ihc presses Its hoped area businesses and industries will buy advertising the book and support its publication Mir the mil the Legion is looking forward putting on a musical extravaganza called Well meet again Thats slated for Oct and and it looks like theyll be sell out performances Souvenirs for the Diamond Jubilee are already on sale at the Legion branch and are expected to receive wide acceptance as the progresses Lots to see enjoy Why come to Pioneer Days Well give a variety of reasons Theres always something special about having Ihe opportunity to shop outdoors in the summer But Pioneer Days has so much more to offer The three day event starting June 20 is special because so many different things are going on Theres something or everyone Every day downtown there will be special street surprises and draws The children will have Ihe chance to carry away a
