Herald Stall Trustees of the Ha I ton Board of Education expressed anger and fm stratum when informed at Thursdays school board meeting that the trustee representation Issue thought finally settled is at the drawing board again Regional Clerk David Varlcy was told by the Ministry of Education that the assessment tors he used to calculate trustee representation were not the factors the ministry wanted him to The Regional Clerk used factors from July 1985 The ministry would like made using July factors The results of this request mean the loss of one public school stee for Oakville giving them five and the gain of one trustee for Bur lington giving them seven All other trustee seats are unaffected One of the problems with this request is it comes after municipal governments all over the region passed by laws Sept clarifying where and how many trustees will run In the election The request to Mr Varley was dated August 19 but was post marked Sept 3 a date after the laws passed Chairman Betty Fish er said the ministrys unreasonable request was putting and Burlington in turmoil I think it should be slopp ed and notice should be served she exclaimed In a letter to Mini of Education Sean Conway David wrote reasons why re assessment was unnecessary because it contradicted the Educa Act He said Section of the Act states that assessment Is based on the latest factors collec ted And that factors used should be those From the election He pointed out to the minister of education that city by must be passed before Sept 1 five days after orders to use factors were received by the school Mr Varley also noted in the letter that the act docs not require all pro vincial school boards to have the same factors that 1984 factors ore not the only relevant ones But regardless of his arguments the ministry decision is final Burlington will have seven trustees and will have five Mr said the ministrys decision Is more embarrassing than inconvenient for such problems over some thing as straight for ward as trustee repre sentation but it happens every time WANTED COINS STAMPS ENTIRE COLLECTIONS POSTCARDS OLD MAPS BOOKS MIUTARIA ANTIQUE JEWELLERY SOLD AMD
