figure skating fans a home coming to remember Sunday with a near perfect long program perform that solidified his hold on the Central Ontario Sectional Junior Men gold medal Kemp went Into the final skate In top spot being the final skater to compete However It was obvious at the finish that Kemp saved his best stuff for last Ho was the only competitor to receive a mark better than five from the judges In both technical merit and artistic impression above shows the happiness he felt Sunday after his long program Kemp alio shown with his coach right finished first In the Junior Men division at the Central Ontario Sectionals held here for our days last week photos by Dan Ralph This was a new program that 1 did and It looked like the people enjoyed it Kemp said I couldn t go conservatively This Is what I ve been training for all this time I knew if I performed well I do well Kemp added When I my second triple sow I knew I was on Kemp started the competition off with a second place finish In the figures then added a top finish In the short program that landed him first overall heading into Sunday a final event Even though be the final competitor Kemp said he dldn t feel the pressure I benefited from It because I could gather my thoughts before I felt good out there I wasn nervous and I was In control I wanted to skate three consistent events he said I wanted to prove to myself I could do It Kemp too was eager to come back and skate In front of bis hometown These are my roots and It feels great It was a highlight to be able to skate in Georgetown Even though train out of town Toronto Cricket Club and Curling Centre I tell people I m from George- Another area skater also won his division Campbellvllle Kevin Parker who trains at Toronto Granite Club successfully defended his senior men title even though the final standing showed him behind Mark MacVean of Glouchester However MacVean wasn eligible for the medals as he was competing out of his normal section Eastern Ontario Parker said what he was most happy in his long program was being able to regain his composure after missing two triple Jumps Other times I might have quit but tonight I was able to get my program back he said Parker started off third in the figures but was second in the short program and was second overall prior to the finals Parker won the free skate competition I wanted to win my figures but I had problems on my first one which set the tone I capable of better Parker said coming back to Halton Region did put some extra pressure on him However being the senior member of his division put more on the 21yearold There always more pressure on you if you re the one with the experience he said There is pressure when you come back to a place where you know a lot of the people Last year Parker was fifth at the Canadian championships and Is hop ing for a finish In the top three this year The top four finishers In all categories advance to Divisional set for Whitby In January Other Georgetown competitors were Andrew novice mens and Daynla Cammlck novlce ladles Hoddinott was sixth after figures and finished eighth in the free skate for a ninth place finish overall Cammlck qualified for her final event but her final standing wasn available However qualify for Raiders split games with Petrolia Chrysler suffered their worst defeat Friday night at the bands of a team they beat just two nights prior Wednesday the Raiders defeated PetrolitfMcDonald s Squires at the Alcott Arena However when the two teams met Friday in the outcome was much different The hometown Squires
