Halton Sports Majoi Atoms have had a somewhat disap pointing season but in one touma they turned their season around Competing In the Seventh Annual Niagara Falls Atom Hockey Touma against a very high quality field of teams Georgetown played inspired hockey to reach the tournament final Only a hard fought loss to an ex Copper Cliff team prevented the Major Atoms from bringing home the championship North Halton Sports team was grouped with Scarborough Cam bridge and in what past history indicated would be a very strong division Georgetowns opening tournament game was against Scarborough Agtncourt on Monday afternoon The score flattered the Toronto foe as the Major Atoms skated to a victory Blaine McCauley with two and Doug Sheppard with a single hand the North Halton Sports scoring Sneppard and Brent Wilkinson earned assists on the goals Chad Hughes contributed a Iron goaltending effort for our locals Tuesdays foes were Cambridge and AJax two very strong teams and the major rivals to win the divi In the morning game Cambridge built an early lead which they carried Into the third period The Major Atoms never gave up and their hard work was rewarded as they scored three unanswered third period goals to record a well earned victory started the comeback as be banged In the rebound of a Jamie Stephenson shot with Gavin Glaser also earning an assist Sneppard again lit up made several outstanding saves as be took his turn In backstopping a North Sports victory Tuesday afternoon saw Georgetown face AJax as the two undefeated divisional teams squared off to determine which team would qualify for the tournament championship series opened the scoring midway through the first period on a goal assisted by McCauley and Glaser In an extremely fast paced open ing period AJax tied the score at 1 1 repeated his morning heroics as he again rounded the AJax net to tuck In the North Sports second marker of the game and Tyson Hackett assisted on the goal In the same shift Johnson and Associates Major Atoms took on the Ancaster team in In Harrison Division county playoffs Georgetown had tied them the night before and were leading with lesa than three minutes left In the game But the shortstaffed locals could not hold on and lost a heart breaker by a score of Johnson and Associates went Into the game with only six forwards and three The first period was evenly played
