career goals By CHERYL Herald Staff New police recruit Robert is an exception to the rule Usually It is a tough feat to be cepted onto a police force but In less than a year from when he applied Mr was working as a police officer The yearold did not start his schooling with police work in mind when he attended Sheridan and Mohawk colleges Mr Govan was working towards becoming an accountant when Just decided accounting was not where I wanted to be Prior to talking to a cousin who is an officer in New Brunswick Mr had always been under Impression one needed a unlver degree or at least a law and security course to gel onto a police force His cousin showed him that he did not need a diploma and Mr said Inspired me to try To get the wheels turning Mr put in an application to the Hailon Police Force f he had not been accepted the recruit planned go through a law and security course I applied to went through the testing and got on he said I know it sounds strange but is the way It happened Ninety per cent of those hired on the force have some kind of previous schooling behind them In mid summer Mr a letter from recruiting of fleers saying they wanlcd him to come in for a physical at the of September He then received a phone call ask if he could come in three days later physical After the physical every tiling is a blur Mr Govan sold He com plcted all his other testing
