Georgetown woman stepped down from her position as secretary April 15 In truth though as one minister under whom she worked stated Mrs Rev Harold Martin said that Mrs Livingstone was known to give much pastoral care from her office as he did from his study You have to be a good listener Mrs Livingstone said When I wrote out my duties she said he added all his little bits of things he felt she also did Among her 15hour per week duties Mrs Livingstone did all the renting of the church looked after the mail wrote the Sunday church calendar board minutes and annual report ordered church supplies looked after the ministers needs and basically kept the place In order During the two decades that Mrs Livingstone has been a member of the church she has also done visits tlon and prepared meals for the Men Club when It was active Over the years you do quite a lot she said Mrs Livingstone has had fun do ing the work she has done for the church It has been an enjoyable experience and one I will cherish all my life she said The best part of the job for the retired secretary was the different personalities she met and the people with whom she worked I like the contact with the peo ple she said That Is the beauty of the job Over the years she was worked under the pastoral care of Rev Robert Scnvers Rev Harold Mar tin Rev Fred Bajsden Rev Hal Llewellyn Rev Jeffrey Davidson and Rev Nancy Knox Mrs Livingstone has also been an avid contributor lo her church When she and her husband Bud who has been supportive of her work llv in North York Mrs Livingstone taught Sunday school for the Ail i a ton Park United Church and was a primary Sunday school dent At that time over years ago the Sunday school helped support the church As a money making project Mrs Living tone and the other Sunday school teachers would distribute hot cross buns The children would go out and gel the orders she said and we would fill them The Georgetown resident had a lot of fun on raising projects and working at the Toronto church Mrs Livingstone has felt a lot of love from members of the St John congregation but none so much as The University of Toronto Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa has elected Tom must be in education for IS or more years hold a post graduate degree or belong to a faculty of education teaching staff There are Phi Delta Kappa Chapters in the world On Oct 22 1955 the University of Toronto Chapter was established as the flraf Chapter Canada Other Chapters nave been organised Nova Scotia Quebec Manitoba Alberta and British Columbia In 1MB the University of Toronto Chapter hosted the Biennial Coun cil with over 1000 delegate from around the world in attendance It was the University of Toronto Chapter anniversary and the first time the Conference was held outside the Delrex Boulevard resident Susan Loilto Is furious with the town for cutting a huge chunk out of the blue spruce tree in her front yard lost fall Mrs Lorito whose home backs on to Joseph Gibbons Park said she was old by a town engineer lost year to trim her tree back only one or two centimetres because it was intruding on the sidewalk Mrs had already been sent a letter by the town telling her to cut the trees But inspection by the town engineer showed only a small trimming was needed she said But Mrs left the tree for a few days through a storm One day while her husband was home during the day a town worker pulled up took a chalnsaw to the tree said Mrs Lorito The chalnsaw has killed the front of the tree said Mrs This sucker took a chalnsaw to a 20yearold blue spruce and saws out of the front of my tree Those trees are supposed to be carefully dipped she said Mrs said the tree is worth between and tax I want something to be done about ft It a disgusting what a hap pened to this thing she said IVs very ugly Very upsetting Phyllis Livingstone retired from her post as secretary of the St John United Church after yean when she was diagnosed with cancer in I was not expected to live she said The church rallied around mi I will never forget how sup portive they were of me One day when the 60yearold came back from treatments at Princess Margaret Hospital In Toronlo she found her mailbox stuff ed with get well cards The church kept her Job open for her 1 had a goal and 1 reached that goal Mrs Livingstone said It was very very humbling ex Mrs Livingstone has seen many changes since she began working August a year after her family moved to Georgetown The retired secretary was bom and raised in London England moving to Canada in 194G after the Physically the sanctuary of the church has been remodeled Mrs Livingstone finds Georgetown to be a transient town and she said The congregation Is of service A reception will be far Mrs Livingstone Sunday at the a changing congregation At one time Tier husband Bud would have known about per cent of the congregation but now he would know about 35 per cent Besides her church work Mrs Livingstone and her husband are avid Bridge players and love to walk The Georgetown woman also enjoys knitting and has worked as a volunteer for organizations such as the Red Cross and Meals on Wheels Her retirement comes at a time when she is ready to spend more lime with her husband Mrs Livingstone wants to fulfill her dream of visiting western Canada as well as other travel She and her husband are also in volved with and the couple wants to expand that work a little Eventually Mrs Livingstone wants to get back Into volunteer work There will be a retirement party for the secretary at the St John a Georgetown Hall May 15 from to New equine centre at Guelph Premier David Peterson will rive by horsedrawn carriage to at tend the May 17 opening ceremony at the new 5mllIion Equine Research Centre located at the University of Guelph Unique in Canada he centre will conduct research for the racing riding and show horse sectors of Canada multl billiondollar equine industry The building and equipment funds for the centre were donated largely by Ontario equine organizations and other horse en thus lasts Following the ceremony Peterson will tour the facility with other guests and start the centres high speed treadmill Guests include Jack Riddel Ontario minister of agriculture and food Jack chair of the Equine Research Centre Advisory Council Bill Stewart University of chancellor and former minister of agriculture Burt Matthews presi dent of the University of Guelph Frank Drea chair of the Ontario Racing Commission and other representatives of the equine In dustry Public tours will be offered from
