Wednesday June a Herald concern a proposed day care on at S3 Main North 1 was quite concerned with Ihc statement mode in this issue but more Importantly those which were lefl out The lone gentleman at the meeting objecting to It e expansion of the day care mentioned the Injured child last year in front of the day care Th s unfortunate accident happened on a Saturday when the day care was closed and the ch Id was not one of the day are children No child enters or leaves Ihc day cart thout I s on therefore the Id was connected the day care but this was mint in the report Also why wen he nan of the people and lie of sup port who spoke at he meeting mentioned In the report Why docs seem hi report ends on such an unfortunate state ment rati han one staling overwhelm support for the proposal I ask the readers and the town planners to answer this question Why wasn t done last year to Uimo or more serious dents from occurring or do we wa t for slat sties on why can l be done To discuss the matter of traffic as hazardous when children ore drop- and eked up at the day care at ihc corner of Main and Highway 7 there are more problems dui lo lack of parking lilies on this properly When traffic Is held up on Highway 7 people use Main Street lo avoid the slaw down thus passing d rectly in of the day care during busy hours making ihc dropoff and pick up area hazardous for children and drvers The day care however it Main SI N is far more su table because ihc majority of traffic coming to ihc day care is going north when the heavy traffic travels south on Highway thus no intorruollon of Personal best Hills Mayor Miller set a personal best lime in the An Mayor Race Sunday Ills worst finished the five- kilometre route of the course In mihutes There weren I too many participants behind but It was still quite an achievement though many would have been happy with the accomplishment the Mayor didn I rest on his laurels Sunday afternoon he was making his way around town once again with walkers raising money for the United Way traffic Also Lucy has made for parking changes on property to accommodate even more cars Who I we need are solutions rather than adding problems and to strive to find ways provide excellent day care facilities If the true concern for the is to prevent more congestion on Highway and of traf fie then we must stop existing sub divisions and stop those which are proposed for the surrounding areas because with all this will come more ch It Is Impossible lo prevent community growth but It Is however crucial for need of more day care We can no longer de pend on Individuals to babysit in homes The need for day care long overdue and if we cannot fulfill the need now what will hap pen when the new developments are complete and more are in need of supervision Until town has we must compromise by our traffic laws and ensuring our children arc safe in the day care and still accessible for the working parents Lucy Quag La has been looking for a space lo house her day care for several years but she has had many barriers put In her way She has a dream for her children and deserves much more respect and assistance than she has received Georgetown Is a friendly and growing community We have read for yean Ihe problem our day care system is in and wc are In urgent need of facilities and teachers To the town planners and a coun whoever decide keep the of our children a top priority before It la out of control we lived In a society where both parents did not work many of our problems would not exist However this is no longer the case Yes the children and teachers at Main Street day care are small in number the activity and pro mise within those walls are where futures of some of our children will begin as myself and many other sup porters at the meeting stressed Instead of the barriers against the day care listen again to the pro posals and the needs They are good and feasible 1 ask you who are so concerned lo help Lucy and her friends If this Is unacceptable then please help find a location which Is within the dards She has presented her pro posal with solutions The town plan ner has given little support This Is a voting year and there are many parents waiting anxiously to get their children into Lucy day care many who attended the meeting It would be unfortunate lo either separate children or send them to unacceptable facilities because so meone t try Please don t let our children down Give them what Ihey deserve Sincerely Judy Deamude Georgetown V Clothing ballQDns FROM 90 Main St S Downtown Georgetown 8732334 For
