travelled to Waterloo last weekend to participate In the annual Gold Puck Tournament Although the M and Ms faced very opposition from triple A clubs they were not in act they came within a whisker of winning their division The local pucksters found themselves in a tough division with three AAA centres Ottawa Guelph and North York and although they were tied with North York after round robin with two wins and one loss they lost he division tie on goals for and against Friday saw the M and Ms retuc give an afternoon of school for their first game of the tourney against and carted off the win with a 30 victory The local stars stunned their op ponents when they scored at the mark of the first period on a goal by Adam Hilts and assisted by Trevor The remainder of the period saw some excellent up- anddown hockey with sparkling saves by at both ends to render the rest of the period scoreless The first minute of the period proved fatal again for the M and Ms scored at the second mark of period two on a goal by Dunne Lewis aided by and Butt Although local majors hod numerous scoring opportunities it took them until the 12 11 mark of the third frame for their third and final marker when scored on a nice threcua passing play from Hilts and Crawford A sparkling per was turned in by Peter Downs who was called upon to make a number of difficult saves between the pipes and he proved equal to the task to register the shutout for Georgetown Game two against North York Canadiens proved to be the downfall of the M and Ms on Saturday morn ing when they dropped a decision to the
