Halton Board of Education this month The board printed copies of a student transcript guide which they will mail to 11000 companies In Halton Region and 1500 Chief Executive Officers of major com panies such as the Ford Motor Company of Canada in Canada in Burlington and the William Company Ltd in Georgetown said board spokesman Brian Woodland last week Employers confused by the codes in high school report cards will be able to Interpret records of student progress said a board report Before this transcript guide was published employers couldnt tell If a student had done well in school It often came down to a per sonality contest between ap plicants said Mr Woodland We listened to local business and this Is what they want Mr Woodland said the eight- page transcript guide was developed over the last two years in conjunction with the Ontario Ministry of Education and Is the first of its kind In the province ex clusive to the Halton board Director of Education Bob Williams attended a Halton Regional council meeting last week to present the transcripts to Regional councillors The kickoff for the booklets will be held at Canada In Burlington March 3 The transcript guide is part of a program to improve communica tion between the schools and local businesses Were trying to make them aware that schools are positive places Mr Woodland said The first step Is listening to business and providing what they want The f transcript booklet cost the board an inexpensive because they were printed with in ternal machinery said Mr Woodland Employers should have the booklets by the end of February Sheridan animators highlighted Skydome has enlisted the talents of Sheridan College Computer Animation students to produce upbeat humorous public service announcements for Jumbotron Skydomes giant television screen Jumbotron is 35 metres wide by 109 metres high and will be viewed by approximately four million people annually The students are currently work ing in the Campus Com outer Animation lab to produce nc smoking and coming events an nouncements for Jumbotron Skydome chose us because were the only educational with a computer animation program and because we have an international reputation They also thought it would be an excellent student project said Robin King Chairman of Computer Graphics and Computer Animation pro grams School of Visual Arts Oakville Campus Were extremely pleased that selected us as a resource Being part of a project that is directly involved with the public marketplace helps students gain jobrelated skills added Mr King Students gain real world ex perience by acting as a company and treating Skydome as a client Meetings and presentations are an important part of the learning pro- Computer animation is a one- year postdiploma asthma The Lung Associations Family Asthma Program helps families with asthmatic children to unders tand and cope with their condition Guest speakers provide parents with information about asthma
