Feb 2426 and acquired some muchneeded competition heading into next weeks County playoffs In the opening game against Chatham on Feb 24 the boys showed the obvious effects of their recent lack of ice time and were a little flat losing Our goals were scored by Shane Thompson from Andrew Beavan and by Brad Davidson from Thompson and Steven Smith This loss made Saturday after noons contest against local favorite Cambridge a must win Georgetown was in this game all the way and with only four minutes left in the third period Cambridge held a slim lead Then a long shot from the blueline deflected like a cobra at anything that moved and had the spectators from both sides screaming their approval Georgetown now had no chance to advance to the finals so Sunday mornings game against heavily favored Waterloo was nothing to look forward to Waterloo had previously handed Georgetown a thrashing in the Milton tourna ment and since they still had a slim chance to reach the finals we were in tough Our boys showed what they are made of and played like demons for the entire game Neither team could manage a goal in the first two periods and halfway through the third the game was still scoreless Then Brad Kouyoumjian dug the pock out of the corner to Shane Thomp son along the right hand boards Shane spotted Curtis Hoogendam alone in the slot and put the puck right on his stick Curtis then show ed us something we havent seen for awhile his high hard wrist shot The Waterloo goalie is still looking for it and unbelievably the final score read Georgetown 1 Waterloo 0 The whole team played well but special mention must go to goalie Kevin Humeniski for the well earn ed shutout in easily his best game of the season With this victory and a couple of good bounces on Satur- providing we would have had a good shot at the champion ships For his outstanding play in all three games Shane Thompson was picked to play in the tournaments AllStar game and 25 Georgetown supporters
