THE HERALD OUTLOOK Saturday March Page Outlook op Halton Hills Students head for Germany By MICHELLE Herald Special Music students from Georgetown District High School are busy practising their German for an overseas trip that will take them to Germany and Austria The students will leave April 19 for a 10day tour which will give them the chance to show their musical talents learn some of the customs and see some of the sights of the beautiful country Eleanor Wallace and Katie KirkupOrtalon two music teachers at the high school are in charge of the trip They hope that it will be as much of a success as previous trips which have taken them to Boston and Calgary To date Germany is the most am bitious trip the music department has planned The students involved are the Wind Ensemble and the Concert Choir which also include the Stage Band and Jazz Choir Forty students will be attending but there is still room for more before their April departure The itinerary has already been planned and is full of interesting musical events to keep the tourists busy Shortly after arriv ing the students will tour the City of Frankfurt and view the beautiful Cathedral Then- first music per formance is planned for the after noon The students will get the op portunity to travel to Bonn to visit the house of the great classical Firm appeals A metal recycling firm in Georgetown will appeal the towns decision not to its property on Armstrong Avenue to the On tario Municipal Board Monarch Resource Recovery and Transfer Ltd wants the town to rezone its property at 309 Arm strong Avenue to allow outside storage of metal To do that Monarch requires a salvage licence To acquire the licence the property must berezoned Town officials say the business has been operating illegally for several years and in fact Monarch has been fined in the past The application ran into opposi tion from two nearby business owners and many owners of the yettobebuilt Sands con dominium project who say the salvage yard would be unsightly The town turned down the ap plication by Monarchs owner Wayne Olson in January Although do hearing date has yet been set Monarch has asked for a hearing as soon as possible Books wanted Once again the University Womens Club of Georgetown is looking for book donations for the annual book sale to be held April 15 from 9am topm at Knox Presbyterian Church in Georgetown Books and records no tex tbooks or magazines please can be dropped off at McDonalds and the Acton and Georgetown Libraries from March to April Books will also be picked up by calling 8773354 or is look ing forward to Homestay which gives us the chance to taste the German food and live the German life Tamara and her partner Lara Blair flutist have the chance to stay with a real German family as all of the students will during their stay in the country The ninth day will be spent in In nsbruck Austria The tour will in clude the House with the Golden Roof from where the court watch ed the civic festivities in the square below Olympic Village and the The students will then return to Munich for their last The music students each have to pay to attend which is ac tually a bargain considering the price of travelling such a distance For students it is a considerable amount of money but many of them feel that it will be worth every penny Over the past while there have been many fundraisers to help the cost of such a large and expensive tnp A few of these fundraisers in clude a parents committee a draw for a free gourmet dinner supplied by The Cellar restaurant for which the music students are presently selling tickets There will also be a fashion show hosted by Elizabeths Fashions The clothes which will be modelled in clude summer swimwear and graduation prom dresses This show is titled The Sounds of Spr ing and will be held at the Georgetown high school There will also be a Jazz Concert which promises to be worth going to at the John Elliott Theatre When asked if all the trouble is really worth it Eleanor Wallace said that it definitely is The chance to take such a trip may come along once in a lifetime and whatever it takes to get it all together will be
