Council considers 42 million in capital projects Halton Hills councillors are look ing at spending almost 42 million on capital projects in The towns budget committee met last week to pare down a pro posed million budget for the capital expenditures The preliminary capital budget has now been approved in princi ple but nothing is final until the entire capital and operating budget is presented to council ear ly in April Although its a capital budget of almost 42 million now under con sideration the town would only have to raise about million in taxes to pay for the projects Other funds would come from provincial and federal subsidies revenue generating sources such as the hydro commission lot levies and transfers from surplus accounts Among the projects recommend ed for deletion so far this year are a rehabilitation of the CNR overpass on Highway just east of Road 86000 worth of fencing around the training ground area at the Maple Avenue fire sta tion in Georgetown for ar chitectural services for a new fire station for Halton Hills Village for anew sound system for the ice area and lobby at Gordon Alcott Arena and 10000 for road way improvements at Park in Georgetown The 12 million the town would need to raise in taxes includes a 20000 levy on urban area residents who receive town ser vices Throughout the budget process the town is attempting to maintain its pay as you go financing policy town treasurer Ray King says Included in the proposed capital budget is upgrading the various departments computer systems at a cost of Sub sidies from other government
