THE HERALD April Minors win consolation at Major Novice tourney Black Machines rev Georgetown coaches Markham and LaRose decided to really clean out the ex hauat of their black machines before retiring them for the sura by entering them in a Major Novice tournament in Milton The first game Apr was against Guelph and although our boys played a strong game they found Guelph too much to handle and lost 20 Not wanting to take a backseat to the big guys Georgetown reved up even higher to meet Georgetowns arch rivals Milton in their next game Apr 7 Milton took an early lead but to prove size means nothing even when youre waist high to your opponents Georgetown took off Ace turned on the turbo and passed one over to teammate Trevor Rich who banged it home to tie the score Mike Krause had another chance to show the ref his number when in the third period he too found Miltons net and scored the winning goal Georgetown drove on to win 2 On Apr Georgetown went against Maple an extremely strong team Maple took a 20 lead Giant killers Georgetown Construction Minor Novices played the role of giantkillers last weekend entering the Milton Major Novice tour nament and dumping the home side and Robert McLeod assisting Again Maple scored Proving they still had fight left them Georgetown came back to tie the score again when Robert LaRose picked up a pass from Dan Cabral and banged it in Late in the third Maple scored and the clock ran out for the Black Machines Later that day McNallys met Milton again for the consolation championship and Milton was look mg for revenge Georgetown came out in high gear David Markham and Jeff Quin our 89 models did some serious digging along the boards to keep Miltons attackers from penetrating our game Grizzly Jeff Bahr took a shot from the blueline and put Georgetown on the scoreboard and for the first time give them an early lead Mike Krause and Dan were there a few times knocking but just couldnt shake the big guy Joey Goodhew played excellent hockey both games against Milton mak ing some nice rushes to almost score a few times and clearing the puck from in front of our net on a few close calls Jeff Telford and Tudd Richardson showed us some great plays and some last minute poke checks when Milton tried to get in around our net Trevor Rich was right there when Robert McLeod sent the puck out in front of Miltons net and thinking fast Trevor banged it In for a lead Chris Hall played tough in net when knocked flying in the first few minutes he came back even tougher Joey Barber played net for two previous games and did well stopping shots harder than he is used to Driving on and- going for a shutout Robert sent another puck past Miltons goalie with Telford and picking up the assist Georgetown won the game showing our Slant- will take on the big V8 and prove its not the size of the player its the size of the fight in the player when the f scores are in McNallys Black Machines travel to for a final tournament Apr reved up and Bantams to a second round berth in the playdowns this past season was honored as Georgetowns rep coach of the year Hume was joined by peewee manager John Knight who copped the honors for top rep manager of the year Walt Buchan and Hal Pells were cited for their office work by winning the Joe Peritesco Award as GMHA executives of the year Buchan looked after the associations ice program last season while Pells was the GMHAs house league convenor A total of three coaches and three managers were recognized for outstanding service- in the house league divisions Mike Russell was named coach of the year in tb tykenovlce category with Doug Spence taking top manager hours Jim Headman won the Gerry Perky Perkins Award as top coach in the junior division with Anderson named best manager In
