nostalgic art from wildlife art has begun a new chapter In her art Ms Deaville is the feature artist at the auction at the Holy Cross auditorium May Herald photo Shirley Deaville featured in YMCA Art Auction Art aficionados who attend the tenth anniversary of the YMCA Art Auction May 12 will be able to bid on work from a local artist whose nostalgic work has made an inter national splash Shirley is the feature artist for the gala event scheduled for Holy Cross Auditorium The preview of the art begins at 7 with the auction 8 Prom her quaint country home in rural Hills the artist described how she prefers to work at a leisurely pace rather than the hectic pace of an internationally renowned artist like Robert Bateman Three years ago Ms switched from painting wildlife art to nostalgic prints The change has taken her out of what has recently become a highly competitive field and placed her into a more comfortable area an unforgiving medium she says of art You cant make mistakes Now Ms Deaville sells her art out of her Al Marah studio which overlooks Dominion Seed House on Guelph Street in Georgetown The studio named after her Arabian horse also sells many other artists worit Its a family run operation Shirley does the painting her husband David runs the business end of the studio and daughters Heidi and Heather do the framing Shirley her paintings across Canada and many of the nostalgic prints have sold out editions An average print in a series of might sell for around Ms says Recently the artist has slowed down the pace of her work pain ting only what she feels good about In the basement of her home in stead of rushing prints onto the market to keep up with someone like Robert When youre in business art is a whole different ballgame she says Ive always said I didnt want my talent to own me I wanted to own my talent When she was running the hectic life of a business artist she was pressured to make a living The pleasure wasnt I found myself like a hampster in a wheel I do my better work when Im not pressured I could never set my goals as high as Robert Batemans If I did Id have to realize it before I got too far If Im run off my now what in the world would I do if I had that kind of a schedule she said Shirley now favors western and aviation art with two captivating examples adorning her livmgroom walls Her art will be featured with about 40 other Canadian artists and eight international artists at the art auction International artists include Henry Moore and Marc Chagall while local artists like Carol Black Wendy Buykes Jack and Tom and Ruth Gib son will have work at the auction Tickets for the art auction are at the door and in advance Money raised at the art auction goes towards projects such as ctuldcare daycare youth employment Ballinaf ad Correspondent On Wednesday April 19 the Womens Institutes Program Committee met at Mrs Burts for a luncheon meeting At this meeting an itinerary was made for the upcoming year Plans include where each meeting is to be held who responsible for the meeting and a topic for each meeting All this is laid in a printed program format so each member will be aware of the schedule for a yeannadvance The current 4H Club All About Wool has completed its meetings This club was thoroughly enjoyed as much was learned about wool its history and members learned how to knit Each person had to knit an item to complete the course The Ballinafad chapter will join 1600 other participants from other clubs in the Wellington and Halton counties at the Milton Agricultural Museum on Saturday Apnl This gathering marks the Achievement Day held after each club completion All are welcome to come to the museum from 10 am to 3 m to view the projects made At the Ballinafad booth you will see Pineview Public School two years ago involving a school child has prompted Halton Region to Install a set of traffic lights The lights will replace a twoway stop presently at the Trafalgar Road
