ready smile and a special dedication to helping youngsters Those are just three of the characteristics that young Georgetown soccer players will recall when they pause in the future to rekindle memories Harry Jackson Georgetowns soccer communi ty lost one of its most dedicated and cheerful supporters on Mon day Apr when Harry Jackson died suddenly at his Georgetown residence just three weeks after his 69th birthday Its hard to imagine anyone making so great an impact on a community program in so short a time as Mr Jackson did In just two years of involvement with Georgetowns youth soccer pro gram Mr Jackson made a tremendous and lasting impres sion with his energy and dedication He was a tremendous help to me The boys loved and respected him There was a special bond between him and the kids said longtime Georgetown soccer coach George Baines Its going to take a long time before we find anyone of Harrys calibre willing to put in that kind of time If he said he was going to do something he did it A former semiprofessional centreback and fullback in his native Yorkshire Mr Jackson immigrated to Canada three years ago upon his retirement from the British motor trade He and his wife Mary took up residence with their son George and his wife Gail at Georgetown and it wasnt long before Mr Jackson made his presence felt in the local soccer scene He just phoned up one day wanting to help said Baines He was a top flight coach he really knew his stuff He turned out be one of the best coaches Id ever worked with Not only did Mr Jackson display an adeptness at coaching but his managerial skills also came into play He organized the strip uniforms equipment and arranged all the fields last year explained Baines He must have been in management before he retired because he had everything organized at Cedar- vale which had been in chaos He was all for the younger generation said Mr Jacksons wife Mary And he just loved Canada he adored it According to Mrs Jackson her husbands affection for their newlyadopted homeland developed years before their immigration to Canada He was stationed in Iceland for two years during World War and he was billeted with Cana dian troops Mrs Jackson recalled with a smile He said he got used to Canadian beer Like all good coaches Mr Jackson was somewhat of a perfectionist He was always making notes said Mrs Jackson who also recalled her husband once lining the family driveway with a field marker to make sure the equipment was working properly In perhaps a fitting tribute to the kind of man Mr Jackson was Georgetown United awarded one of their Ontario Cup runnersup medalions to him after he had helped them out during the 1988 Mr Jacksons passion for the game of soccer was at least equalled by his strong sense of community pride According to his wife he always insisted on purchasing soccer equipment for local teams exclusively from local merchants He loved Georgetown said Mrs Jackson Mr Jackson is survived by his wife of years Mary son George and his wife Gail of Georgetown son Trevor and his wife Chere of England and five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren Services were held Wednesday Apr at JS of Georgetown soccer He came from England his beloved Yorkshire and Leeds with a passion for the game and had his national coaching badges to prove it all He approached the game and his kids with a zest which would have shamed many half his age and younger with knowledge en thusiasm and humor Harry Jackson could not be classed as just a coach More importantly he taught a teacher before all else Sadly suddenly and mercifully quickly Harry died last Monday Already he is missed He will not easily be forgotten Good rest Harry you were a nice man Last Sunday were to show the Celtic vs Liverpool challenge cup game played in Dubai North Africa a few weeks ago The tape was apparently delayed and the program preempted The game will now be shown on Hay at pan I mention this became on Sunday came the that these two famous clubs will play each other this Sunday April in a charity game in aid of the Hillsborough disaster The Glasgow club were the first to offer anything in the aftermath of the disaster which is very typical of Celtic This will be the Pools first venture onto the field since tragic Saturday I cannot think of a more Fitting way in which to return to the field under the circumstances A ranking British police officer has admitted that another ranking officer did authorize the opening of the fateful gate which resulted in more fans than possible attemp ting to get into the area The police are saying that there is no connection between the two hap penings very hard to believe in deed There was a great crushing of the crowd outside the gate as the game began on time and it may have been felt that there could well have been tragic results had some action not been taken to allow the crowd outside into the ground quickly The gate opening appears to have achieved the same result in the end Auto maw transmission AUTOMASTER TRANSMISSION Foreign Domestic Light Trucks TRANSMISSION SPECIALISTS PROFESSIONAL TRANSMISSION TUNEUP Includes Clean sump and pan New pan gasket
