In my view a soso movie with a dog is a lot better than one without a dog And Jerry Lee The Killer is an impressive actor James plays Mike a lunatic cop In the San Diego narcotics division He breaks all the rules wont co operate with his supervisor hates partners and destroys a zillion cars a week Now theres a novel movie policeman So when he needs help he heads for the K9 corps and recruits Jerry Lee Ac tually Jerry Lee is forced on him Naturally its not an immediately happy pairing Of course we knew that would be the case This movie is nothing if not predictable The two pursue a coldblooded killer and narcotics dealer Lyman Kevin who also happens to move in the highest social circles He loves to hate and orders a thousand hits on him Okay I may be exag gerating these numbers a little Dumb luck and Jerry Lee keep alive Lyman eventually kidnaps girlfriend Tracy Mel Harris and Jerry Lee and must rescue her Despite a gunshot wound and a close call the movie ends happily ever after What a surprise COLLIE WRIGHT Kelly keeps the Identity of her sons Dasbiell Coleman father a secret from the child in Winter People The movie is an imagining of a by gone world It allows us to get lost in the Danish past of stormtossed ships and rough seas grueling farm work and stoic peasants Some people are deeply moved by the films earthy beauty and attitudes Certainly it helps that Max von Sy gives one of his fines perfor mances in a long career of fine per formances as Pelles father a crusty limited man who realizes that hes a weakling and a failure Some of us though find the movie a little dim the characters remote Theres something inherently pro grammatic and melodramatic about the material And the boy isnt enough of a character Hes acted upon and shaped more than being an active figure The movie lacks surg ing poetry and epic contours But it still stands out from most current films GRADE Do your part for the environment Always properly dispose of your waste paper dont
