THE HERALD Wednesday May 10 IMS Page 17 Rebels prove hosts with the most HIGH SCHOOL For the second year a row the Georgetown Rebels proved to be the hosts with the most as GDHS ran away with first place overall in the relay portion of the annual Rebel Classic Invitational Track and Field Meet May 2 Georgetown accumulated a whopping 272 points to take first overall with Oakville s White Oaks points and Burlington s Assumption well behind in second and third respectively GDHS also won the boys and girls teams titles with the Rebel men earning 142 total points to beat second place Bishop Reding 54 points by almost 100 points while the Rebel women totalled 130 points to best second place Milton SO by a full 80 On the field side of the event Georgetown finished second overall to Bramalea with the visitors stacking up 194 points to 126 for and for third place White Oaks Thanks in large part to a new school record by Trent Cull in the shot put the GDHS men s team placed second in the field GDHS and White Oaks 69 each while the ladies ended up fourth Cull heave of metres in the midget shot put broke his own previous school record by almost to full metres and gave the Rebel thrower first place by over four metres over his nearest com petition Lisa Carter s winning leap in the senior girls high jump mark the only other Rebel gold medal mine field competition But on the track Georgetown was virtually unbeatable as the relay portion of the annual event had the Rebels winning 18 of 32 races Rebel teams took top spots in the following races junior girls senior boys junior girls midget and senior boys midget and junior girls 4x400 midget junior and senior boys 4x400 girls and boys open distance medley junior girls midget and senior boys junior and senior girls medley and senior boys medley Donker stars at Redmond meet Bob Donker s trophy case will soon be burgeoning with hard ware if the GDHS junior athlete continues his current torrid pace at local track and field meets For the second time this season Donker was voted the most outstanding junior male athlete of the meet as he ted a strong GDHS performance at the Father Redmond Games in last weekend blazed to first place in both the junior boys 1500 and in copping the top junior male honors Other top three finishes for GDHS came from Greg Workman in the midget boys javelin third and from the girls open relay unit of Alexis Kerr Shen Nairn Anna Toone and Lisa Carter which also earn ed bronze Other strong Rebel runs came from Brent Couling fourth midget boys 800 Natalie Goldson fifth open girls hurdles Bill McDonald sixth junior boys 100 Kristy Johnson sixth midget girls 800 Martin Davison sixth senior boys 3000 Jake Mashmter seventh midget boys 800 and the midget girls relay team reckoned with at OF SAA this year as she claimed first place in the junior girls triple jump at the Father Redmond Games last weekend Scott hopped skipped and jumped for a total of metres setting a personal best mark in the process as she led an impressive Acton Redmen field unit in The junior stu dent followed that gold medal performance with a silver the long jump and a bronze in the javelin Tammy Richards followed suit by earning first place in the midget girls discus while Tracy took second in the same event Tanya Holley was a finalist a very tough midget girls 100- metre final Over 2000 athletes attended the annual Father Redmond Games one of the largest competitions in the province prior to the June OF SAA finals throwers on target Acton relay teams may not have appeared among discus event Prueter also threw to gold in the junior girls discus while Troy Foster was third in the senior boys triple jump Foster added a strong fourth place finish in the senior boys long jump with a metre Jupp leads Acton ruggers The AHS Redmen junior rugby side took advantage of ideal play conditions and a sunny after noon last Thursday as they ran up their second consecutive win in high school league play A total of six tries were scored by the red and white as they trounced the host M Robinson Rams 32 The victory followed a bi behind win over arch rival Georgetown Rebels two weeks ago and left the Redmen juniors at 2 on the season after opening the 1989 campaign with a home loss to Assumption Crusaders Kelly led the Redmen assault on Thursday by scoring a pair of tries from the
