HERALD OUTLOOK May 13 1989 GDHS Report by MICHELLE ROUILLARD Election fever grips media students It was brought to my per sonal attention that there was a dance held at the school on Fri day night It was entitled Rockin Through the Ages Maybe I shouldnt have said anything about the siesta whoops Fiesta Dance that was held in April I was just joshing of course I like the school dances so please dont be mean to me just for making a silly little joke To all the unemployed students included the Youth Employment Office has opened up again this year to help you find a job They should be stopping by the school before too long to get everybody signed up The Grade media students are in the midst of their pro paganda unit During the past week they have had the chance to run for President Vice- President or Social Convenor for the class Its basically all in fun and isnt really supposed to be taken too seriously gee that sort of sounds like what my column is all about But the have taken it very seriously and are fighting it out in debates speeches and mudslinging posters My vote goes to Gary tor vice president because Im on his team Gary Gary hes our if he cant do it no one can Ahem ahem Im sorry I just lose myself when it comes to politics What else is there to be said Just remember my offer still stands to anyone who wants me to write about something in par ticular here Just Big Chill on June 3rd A dance entitled Big Chill will be held Saturday June at the Georgetown Memorial Arena and will feature the live band This years dance is being organized by Georgetown Minor Hockey minor baseball the Raiders hockey club mens and ladies flagfootball ladies baseball and the Hal ton Hills Chamber of Com merce There will be an outdoor seating and drinking area refreshment booths a specialty bar with drinks of the hour and will be sold to raise funds Throughout the evening prizes will be given out for spot dances Jack Broker Distillery is spon soring a service star ting Placement Officers Dear Canada Employment Centre for Students I am a 13 year old student and this year I want to get a summer job I have been working for the past few years delivering newspapers babysitting and do ing odd jobs in my neighborhood This year Id like to get a better job but was told that I need a Social In surance Number How can I get one SINcerely SlNdy A Social Insurance Number is a nine digit number used in the ad ministration of various Canadian government programs The first digit identifies the region of origin The last digit is a check digit based on the others and he middle digits are simply in numerical sequence Usually it is the person to whom the card is issued who decides when to give the number out You are not obliged to disclose it to anyone other than the federal government departments who have proper authority The only other exception is employers who will need the number when they hire you How to apply for an original Social Insurance Number SIN I Go to vour nearest Canada Employment Centre and complete an application form EMP The form must be typewritten or neatly done in ink 2 Submit one primary document lex birth certificate baptismal certificate citizenship card or a Canadian passport Submit a secondary document ex drivers licence school report membership cards if the name you are now using is the same as the name shown on your primary document a supporting document if the name on your primary docu ment differs from the one you arc now using Some examples of these would be official documents deal with your name being changed by law or vour name being chang Once your application is sent in and the information hat you have provided is verified it takes ap proximately three to four weeks before a SIN card is mailed to you However you should know thai is an offence to apply knowingly for more than one Social Insurance Number Once you get your Social In surance Number you can then app ly for a job You can also to the
