THE HERALD OOK Saturday May 13 1989 Mothers Day in danger says local minister CLERGY COMMENT By PASTOR KIJTI- Acton I Tabernacle Instituted in 1907 first in tint USA and later around the world Mothers Day has become an of ficial recognized day It is obvious thdt there will be mothers as long as there is a human race on this world But I wonder these days how much longer the special day to honor mothers be observed in our country As I watch certain trends develop in Canada I question how much longer we can continue with the Mother s Day celebration In the first place it seems that mothers would contradict today s notions about parenting Many today do not recognize that mothers have a special role to play in parenting They would have us believe that both sexes can and should have equal roles to play Ac cording to these the role of father and mother is interchangeable Fathers stay at home mothers go out to work and the children are supposed to get the same wholesome influence from the father as they got from the mother Maybe a parents day would be more appropriate Another development that makes Mother Day awkward to observe is the trend towards day care Politicians in their wisdom have determined that mothers should earn their own living and therefore we need to create all kinds of day care If our children are turned over from their very young- years to outside caregivers how will they ever foster Mother s Day feelings toward their mother I just raise the question And yes I do realize that there are mothers who raise their children all alone and need the income But does that fact make up for the many who are only in the labor force for the all mighty dollar sake Let some of those become real mothers and then there would be enough spaces in day care for the needy ones And then the final area that will snuff out Mothers Day is our in sistence of abortion on demand I am quite sure that there were abortions being performed way back in But they were then against the law as they be now However sec a man such as defy the law l in our country and put whole hold m order to accommodate his flagrant lawbreaking Well a million children s lives arc snuffed out each year in North American and Canada In 1907 people were not marching with signs for the right to kill their unborn children celebration of Mothers Day assumes that children have wholesome positive and loving feelings r their mother Tell me what to tell a child of about years old who finds out that her mother went away to kill her unborn brother or sister Do you think that trust was build up in then relationship or was the unspoken question Am I next Some of you may well criticize me for talking about this on Mother s Day But I can help it The fact that we have abortion on demand does influence the we all think and the way we teacl our children to think about the value of the views of worth we place or deny motherhood and mothers in general Therefore maybe Mothers Day is the best time to talk about it openly I think most sensible people would agree that syrupy sentimental gushyness is out of place in an atmosphere where prospective mothers choose to kill their babies We are practical people So let us be practical about mother hood What can be done to preserve Mothers Day and along with it a high view of motherhood I believe the only way is that we return to the absolute standards of the word of God an i start to see once again the mothers of our land as the ones who impart the faith of our Fathers to the children Only truly faith filled mothers will be able to keep alive the idealism we have always associated with motherhood In the book of Proverbs we read in chapter verse 20 My son Keep your Fathers commands and do not forsake your Mother s teaching This Mothers Day let us resolve that none of our children can ever stand before us be it here on earth or in eternity and ask us What teaching are you talking about mother That it is alright to kill Or that we value life as a God given blessing What teaching will it be Halton Hills NONDENOMINATIONAL ALL PEOPLES CHURCH DELIVERANCE CENTRE FlnchtjAle rimalo earner Finch hwiy PASTOR GEORGE A
