confined to their home with leg problems Birthday rekindles past NORVALFollowing Elsie Mc- Curdys birthday my thoughts went back years ago this fall We fanned on the Ninth Line half a mile north of McCurdys whose farm lane went in alongside St Stephens Anglican Church on Steeles Avenue We decided to call and see them one evening and the one thing im pressing me most was their gleaming white enamel kitchen cook stove with the wood box sit ting behind the stove It was filled with wood every night I had inherited an old black kit chen stove you polished up in the morning before you lit the fire with black stove polish Not only that but the front lids were warped so it would rock back and forth and if the wind blew a certain way it would also smoke Of course besides heating the kit chen and cooking and baking there was a water tank that kept the water hot Of course you had to keep the tank filled depending on how much hot water you used I had a cistern pump at the kit chen just a step from the stove and our drinking water was at the back door not far to carry a pail of water in but Elsie had to carry her water from the barn which didnt make me feel quite as envious then However in a few we too had a new wood burning kitchen stove a very important part of the farm kitchen in those earlier years delegation at Council meeting NORVAL Norval delegation went to council on Monday May 15 requesting an official secon dary plan for the Hamlet of Nor val Kathy Gastle represented the citizens of and gave the presentation I am speaking tonight on behalf of the citizens of Norval and the Community Association At this time the Hamlet of is without an Official Secondary Plan and we understand Georgetown and the Hamlets of Glen Williams and Stewarttown have one How long have they had Of ficial Secondary Plans We live a beautiful village in a river valley but there has been in discriminate rezoning and the residents have had to fight each change always losing and fin ding their homes an island amidst commercial properties We have to contend with heavy commuter traffic through our village and we dont need further damage from strip development that will impede the traffic even more and with considerable potential for accidents and fatalities I am here to present a motion from the Community Association that there be a freeze on any further rezoning until there is an Official Secondary Plan for the Hamlet of Also we would like as citizens to have input to any Secondary Plan We need your support so that we can preserve this river valley and its semi rural
