Paw THE HERALD June Retiring GDHS teachers say a lot has changed Herald Staff Heres your class so go to it is the way retiring Georgetown District High School Science Department Head Tom Beers Bob Webster described his initial experience as a teacher 31 years ago Since that rude awakening Mr Beers has lived with and con tributed to an education system that today provides its teachers with improved guidance Mr Beers said teachers starting out high school teachers Bob Webster when be did were lucky if they and John Todd Monday afternoon received help from a schools ad at St Georges Anglican Church ministration or other teachers Mr Webster has taught Auto If you needed help youd go to Shop at the school for the past 21 the staff room and maybe someone years while Special Education would be there to help you or then again maybe not he said Mr Beers reflected on the changes in the education system during a retirement sendoff put on by the towns high school for himself and retiring Georgetown John Todd television However not all of what theyve seen as teachers has been positive They were adamant that todays parents are failing to contribute sufficiently to their childrens education and a general upbr inging As a result a teachers job has necessarily expanded from teaching to also providing emo tional support But Mr Todd said this change in the studentteacher relationship is good in many ways He said unlike in the past when students only related to teachers as authority figures they now treat them as friends Consequently students today more readily approach teachers said Mr Todd teacher John Todd has been with the school for 24 years All three agreed another change for the good is the more worldllness of todays students Mr Beers attributed this greater awareness to the pervasiveness of Fashions For The Young At Henri MAIN ST GEORGETOWN Across From Kruix Crunch 873 Balk Food FOR AIL YOUR BAKING NEEDS WED RING Elegant Catering for all
