recently asking to have their street paved Elizabeth and David have lived on Crescent tn Georgetown since They say the street is 99 per cent in ex cellent condition The only sign of neglect and Toronto Area committee the organization form to search for a solution to southern Ontario s waste disposal crisis If Peel pulls out of the committee the organization could fold A resolution was passed at Peel Region last council meeting to meet with Premier David Peterson and James Bradley Minister of the Environment The details of that meeting were not available at press time Peel along with Durham York and Metropolitan Toronto formed the GTA earlier this year Part of each region mandate in the is to suggest a landfill site for Metro s waste disposal Halton Regional chairman Peter Pomerqy who represents at the GTA meetings says Peel decision on whether or not to re main in the committee could affect all the other regions I would assume that if Peel s out of the GTA then there would probably be no GTA said the chairman Tuesday But he added that Peel would have to decide what they want to do before the GTA s future is determined Recently the Toronto press pointed to the Acton quarry at Sideroad 22 and Fourth Line as be ing on a pnvate ministry list as Halton s landfill site for GTA membership While Halton Region has not officially endorsed the site Peel has chosen a proper northeast Brampton ac cording to Peel s planning com and acting chief ad mimstrator Peter Allen The site is located north of Coun Road near Airport Road But the GTA is not helping Peel solve its present garbage crisis Mr Alien said We have less than a year s capacity and we re desperate Mr Allen referred to the Britannia Road landfill site that expires for use in 1990 been seeking approval from the Ministry of the Environ ment and were just not getting it he said The dissent is between us and the province Peel chairman Frank Bean and Mississauga Mayor Hazel Callion met with the environment minister last week Results of this meeting will lead to Peel s deci sion which will be announced at a Regional meeting in Peel Aug 10 said Mr Allen Although the GTA could collapse if Peel
