of Director of Of ficiating for the National Hockey League The announcement was contained in a joint press release issued by NHL Offices in Toronto Montreal and New York Wednes day evening At the same time the NHL an nounced the appointments of Harris to the position of Assistant Director of Officiating and Will as Coordinator of Develop ment The announcement was in troduced by Jim Gregory the Leagues VicePresident of Hockey Operations Gregory was quoted as saying We are pleased to announce the appointments of these three gentlemen who bring with them a combined total of over years ex perience in the NHL officiating ranks All three have exhibited dedication and leadership throughout their careers especial ly during their recent years in of ficiating management positions at both the NHL and amateur levels Lewis succeeds John Cauley also of Georgetown who died unexpectedly in June from complications following surgery In an exclusive telephone inter view with the Herald from the Toronto offices Lewis had this to say about his newly ac quired position and the man he suc ceeded Im excited its another challenge and I accept the challenge I enjoy challenges I look forward to worked as a referee in the Central Western and American hockey leagues In the season he worked his first game in the NHL During his officiating career Lewis was selected to referee in four Stanley Cup Final series 1983 and 1985 He worked the AllStar game played in Los Angeles and refereed Canada Cup games He retired from active of ficiating following the NHL season having worked games Lewis joined the NHL super visory staff for the 198687 season as coordinator of development and his responsibilities included the recruitment and development of minor league officials The Ontario Hockey Herald Sports Editor The culmination of two years of time and effort will be realized Wednesday evening when the Georgetown Baseball Association in conjunction with the Kinsmen Club unveils its long awaited Batting page The project funded jointly by the GBA and the local Kinsmen Club was headed by former GBA executive member Rich with able assistance from Hal Ridley The unveiling ceremony is scheduled for pm Wednesday evening and will be attended by representatives of the Town of Hills the GBA and the Kinsmen Club The batting cage is located adjacent toDiamond A the Fairgrounds The project cost approximately with the Kinsmen Club bear ing the brunt of the monies needed The Kinsmen Club donated 12000 the GBA came up with 6500 and a donation was gratefully accepted from the Halton Hills service clubs Slopitch League The batting cage will be run by Coordinator and will be open to the public As yet however a schedule for public use has not been finalized The principal ownersusers will be GBA teams and teams in the Kinsmen Girls Softball League The is suitable for use by both hardball and softball teams Members of the public wishing more information on usage times are urged to
