American League East is shaping up to be real dogfight All teams except the Tigers have a good chance of tak ing the pennant This years stan dings of the ladies league makes the major leagues look like a picnic A win will move a team two or three places higher in the stan dings A loss and youre back in the B division Every game is becom ing increasingly important as the playoffs loom Travelling Blueberries 17 Raisin Hell The Berries had a feast in this game as almost every girl had a base hit Heather had three safeties and four Elaine chipped in three RBIs and struck out four Hell Raisers Elaine Cathy Crichton and Jane Long each legged out two hits apiece as the Blueberries got a good effort from all Raisin Hell put on a good show as well but a sixth inning defensive lapse cost them Anderson Heather Hansen hit a tremendous homer and Shaw had two ribbies Its Not Easy is proving just that as the Greeners have hit a rough spot in the schedule Sharon Zmija smok ed a homer and Diana Tripp pun ched out a threebagger Sue Williams made her return from holidays by hitting a nice double Half 20 Blue Zone 1 J This game turned out to be a derby as the two teams combined for seven dingers Ironically Blue Zone had five homers yet lost to a wellbalanced Croc attack Barrett and Lin da did the homer damage for Half Crocd Colleen Costello Wendy Farrow and Goldie Cash each had nice nights at the plate Sandra Robinson managed to keep the Blue Zone bats off balance long enough for her team to pro duce the winning runs Sandy truck out six on the night Blue Zone bats were jumping in this game but defence cost them dearly Cindy Kemper spanked out two homers and Diane Richardson Anne Korzack and Cathy Watson had solo moonshots Janice Mur ray also had a triple but the Blue Zone got bit by a mad croc in this game Shady Ladles 17 Shady Ladies overwhelmed the Sox in a onesided match Donna paced gals with three hits and get this a stolen bases Melanie Henson finally got un packed with her first homer- Robin also slugged a tater Virginia Walker and Mane Groot- jen also had their hitting shoes on with three hits apiece Red Sox- season continues Jean Puckering and Carolyn Woodworth pitched well for the Sox and Dawn Hilts had a good double for the falling Sox Pink Cadillacs 17 Lifes a Peach 5 This was a long night for the Peachy ladies The Caddies could do no wrong and after a close start blew this game wide open Brenda Hamilton emulating Fred had a grand slam Sherri Diegel crushed out two doubles to back up solid pitching from Betty Joanne Peyton and Stacey shone defensively making fine catches in the field Other than a solid defensive ef fort Lifes a Peach had a dreary game Debbie Titus and Debbie Anderson played solidly and Laurie Henson had a two base hit Blue Zone 1 If anyone can figure out Raisin Hell let the league know This team plays hot and cold and on this night Blue Zone got them when they were sweltering Bishop belted a grand slam and Lois Cassissta also hit one out The Hell Raisers combined for more than hits to burn a luckless Blue Zone The lone bright spot for the Zone was the single run by Janice Mur ray Its Not Easy Being Green
