GIBSON Herald Sports Editor The old cliche about not coun ting your chickens before they hatch came home to roost in Georgetown Mens Flag Football League play Sunday Karry Kit chens upset runaway A Division regular season champion Dairy Queen as the 1989 regular season came to a close at the Georgetown High School field In other regular seasonending games Longhoms throttled Plus Welding Muscle Works sur prised Oldtimers 2213 and Cor easily outplayed the Glen 3810 Official league records werent kept during the formative years of the Mens Flag loop but Dairy Queen felt certain that if the team had prevailed over Karry Kitchens it would mark the first time a team had gone undefeated in regularseason play The onagainoffagain DQ of fence sputtered again and that combined with a surprisingly tenacious Karry Kitchens defence and strong leadership from quarterback and team captain Pembleton allowed the Kit chens crew o carry the day The game was tied at halftime with Jim Taggart scoring for Karry Kitchens and Steve Swivelhips Grossman stunning both teams with a 60yard pass and run major Doug Ken kicked a field goal to give Dairy Queen a 96 ear ly second half lead but Karry Kit chens did not buckle as many ex pec ted and Anthony Oram gathered in a twoyard toss from Pembleton to turn the tide in the winners favor Oram also add ed the convert to seal the win According to a number of Dairy Queen players the loss might help cure whats ailing the team as it enters the playoffs hoping to claim its fifth consecutive league cham A 394 win might seem indicative of an awesome offensive attack but in the win over Plus Welding it was actually the defence that cemented the victory Tight coverage accounted for a Roy number of dropped Plus Welding passes and the eventual losers never did get their offence in gear The scoring was spread throughout the lineup with Paul Allison collecting 12 points Gary Hulbert adding eight points and Jim Lindsay Wayne Dole and Bruce Mitchell counting scoring majors Dave rounded out the scoring with a single point from a convert Despite the fact his team failed to make the leagues playoffs Roy almost singlehanded ly restored a certain amount of pride in leading an undermanned Muscle Works squad to a 2213 win over the Oldtimers Brad Ferguson Oldtimers jumped out to an early 70 lead then Roy took over He scored a touchdown added the convert and kicked a field goal to allow Muscle Works to lead 107 at the half In the second half Roy scored two more touchdowns to seal the win One of the majors came off an interception The interception major was the second steal of an errant pass in the game forRdy Mario Santos and Paul Martin had scoring majors for the Oldtimers with Bill kick ing a convert Corrigan continues to baffle op ponents with a faceted of fence and their romp over the Glen only emphasized this aspect of their total game Corngan led 3010 at the half and counted 14 second half points in the easy win John Egan and Wayne Stasivlis each scored 12 points for the win ners League scoring champion Brad Ferguson had eight points Starr and Linus Stasivlis each counted scoring majors for Corrigan Mike West scored
