will be the first region in Ontario and one of the first in Canada to introduce public recycling bins called igloos These blue boxes away from home are shaped like igloos and are made of bluecolored injection- molded Regional Chair man Peter announced a plan yesterday Tuesday to distribute igloos around the Region in public places such as parks arenas shopping centres and GO stations The igloos made by German firm Stinnes Enerco Inc will be on loan to the Region for a year The igloo will make its Halton Hills debut at the Georgetown and Acton fall fairs this month The program will cost the Region about over the next year to purchase a truck for collec tion said Jake Westerhof the Regions waste reduction techni cian There wilt be multi- material igloos and the 20 dome- shaped singlematerial igloos Igloos will reduce the amount of waste deposited in landfill sites Mr Pomeroy said But Mr could not estimate how much waste would be reduced from the use of the igloos which are
