the town staff used rates in OakviUe Burlington Guelph and Orangeville Three of those four communities have public transpor tation Orangeville like Hills does not have public transportation But taxi prices charged by the four municipalities are similar Guelph Burlington and Orangeville charge for their drop rate entry into the taxi cab OakviUe charges cents less at Halton Hills is presently at but is asking for a 25cent increase tol The price per kilometre for a taxi nde in each municipality falls in the same range Burlington OakviUe and Orangeville charge per kilometre Guelph charges Halton Hills also charges 20 No change is proposed for this rate in Halton Hills Waiting prices for each hour for a taxi range from in Burlington to in Orangeville OakviUe and Guelph Hills charges an hour to wait but the town is con sideling a hour Increase to bring up to par with other municipalities If Halton Hills approves a 50cent increase on the first kilometre of a taxi ride it will charge the highest amount of the five municipalities surveyed Hills presently charges for the first kilomtre compared to charged by taxis 80 charged in OakviUe and for the first kilometre charged by Burlington and Guelph taxi drivers There are 21 licensed taxi cabs in Hills operating out of three companies One company is located m Acton and the other two are in Georgetown Halton Hills town staff met with the owners of all three taxi cab companies in July to discuss fare rates which are under town jurisdiction The company owners asked for price increases because cabs must be replaced every four years tire tax increases bring add ed costs gasoline prices have in creased about 10 cents a litre and because insurance rates have in creased 2 annually over the past three years The taxi cab com owners also said brokers are increasing their fees and there are no cost of living increases their line of work Town councillors will vote to ap prove or deny the taxi price in creases for Halton
