Wednesday October 1W9 Acton harriers show promise There are two things that set the annual Octoberfest Invitational Cross Country races apart from all other cross country races open to high school athletes Those are the seventy of the courses and the huge numbers of competitors Located at the Chicopee Ski Hills in Kitchener the courses are a run ners nightmare with huge hills and very few flat areas in which to recover Even the start of the races is uphill This year s event which was held last Thursday saw the largest number of competitors at a high school cross country meet in Canada There were 2 athletes competing Bruce Andrews the coach of the Cross Country team was pleased with the efforts of his run ners We are trying to build a foundation for cross country at Ac ton and this will take some time The of our runners have been steadily improving from meet to meet and this meet was no exception especially in light of the huge numbers of competitors David Osborne continued his strong racing this season by ing 11th in a field of 315 finishers Coach Andrews believes that upon Osborne performances so far this season tie should be able to qualify for the championships and be able to finish in the top 2o Julian Sark and Bob Andrews first year runners achieved good results for themselves by placing 229th and respectively The junior boys 6 800 metre race saw the largest
