Choral society is back in full swing this year HERALD Wednesday October 1989 Page 15 ByLOISFKASER Herald Special The Georgetown Choral Society has started rehearsing for their new season and they are back in record numbers The choir has members and is growing steadily Word has it that Knox Church is the place to be on Monday evenings if you enjoy singing and have a keen interest in challenging choral works The quest for choral tion has lead to the decision for the choir to concentrate on two con certs this year With a demanding spring concert planned and a full Christmas concert in rehearsal the choir members feel they must devote themselves fully to these projects Given a projected tour of Holland this spring the choir and their capable director Dale Wood have then- work cut out for them The person at the helm of this ex citing group is president Barbara Kozler She heads up the executive comprised of vice president Josephine Tawil treasurer Doug Cole secretary Sonja Buistnan past president Ian Oldaker and various committees such as music library social publicity and war drobe Because the group is grow so rapidly the Choral Society would appreciate the help of any volunteers in the community who would lilEe to work behind the scenes If you love music and have some free time please give Bar bara a call Barbara originally hails from New Zealand where she was a primary school teacher Like many people from her country she decided to tour the world After touring North America she taught English for a year in Mexico City before continuing on to England While there she met her husband Jan Kozler They came to Canada seven years ago and have two children Stephan age 7 and Nadine age 5 Jan is a graphic designer and owner of Associates in Georgetown Bar bara works full time in the family business and has convinced Jan to donate his services in the design of the Choral Societys posters and programs When Barbara moved to Georgetown she looked for an evening outlet to get her out of the house after a busy day with children As a girl she sang in school choirs and figured that the Choral Society s weekly practice was the least demanding of the areas artistic endeavors Little did she suspect that after three years as secretary she would end up as the groups president Bar bara enjoys the responsibility of being president She feels the big challenge facing the choir is finding facilities to perform in that allow room for a 70voice choir or and the larger audience that is required to make a concert a financial success The Choral Society invites you to meet Barbara and the choir at their annual Christmas concert Tickets are now on sale for the Christmas concert which was a sellout last year The concerts will be held on Nov in Brampton at the Second Christian Reform Church and and Nov 25 and 26 at Knox Presbyterian Church in Georgetown All performances begin at m Tickets are for adults for students and seniors and are available at Oxbow
