Santa Claus parade Man objects to political and protest floats By ALAN MACK1E the Herald The Georgetown Lions Club has not stuck to its goal of keeping political and protest groups out of its Santa Claus parade a local dent says Robert Johnston a product analyst for Canada Limited told Mark Rush parade chairman the POWER and Right to Life groups should not be allow ed to participate in the Santa Claus parade The Georgetown Lions ran an advertisement for the Christmas parade in a local paper which read No Political or Protest Groups Please early in October POWER Protect Our Water and Environmental Resources is a citizens group fighting the pro posal for a landfill site in the Acton quarry Mr Rush acknowledged the advertisement and said We do want to keep the parade non- political He said Christmas is a religious holiday and the Right to Life group is based on strong religious beliefs He added they have been translating their religious beliefs into political views but they are fundamental fundamental religious base to It ly based on religion He also stated the organization Mr Johnston said he is not never approached him about enter associated with either the Right to the parade Therefore the Life or movements and have not been forced to make said he has just about had that decision The Lions have no of enough of the abortion issue position on the abortion because it occupants belongings Dale Duncan and Don Martin were rushed to Georgetown and District Hospital where they were treated for minor facial burns They have since been released Hills fire department officials say A flashover caused the bums Of say ft flashover occurs when gases build up in a room then exposed to oxygen David Leslie was also treated for facial bums at Georgetown hospital He has also been released But of were unable to give the cause for his burns Larry suffered carbon monoxide poisoning while operating one of the departments pump trucks He was first taken to Georgetown hospital and then transferred to the Toronto General Hospital Mr has since been transferred back to Georgetown hospital where he Is currently listed in good condition fire officials say The fire walls We punched a hole in the wall and then got buckets of water from the sink and tried to put it out After a while I started taking things out of the house Mr Evans said When Mr Evans left the house he saw someone in the driveway who then went across the road to a neighbor to telephone the fire department Mr Evans was unable to identify the person The house is owned by Acton resident
