Editor Georgetown Haiders pride not to mention the teams record suffered a pair of blows in the squads two most recent Central Ontario Junior Hockey League West Divi sion outings Brampton Capitals hung a 121 thumping on the Raiders in a game played last Thursday Dec 14 in Brampton while Burlington Cougars skated to a win over the hometown crew Saturday night at Gordon Memorial Arena Raider coach Peter Sturgeon doesnt to offer excuses but he feels there are valid reasons for the Raiders continuing misfor tunes We knew the start we would be going with a young team and thai we would take our lumps Then the affiliation with Owen Sound Platers formerlj Platers of the Onlario Hocke League was discontinued because they wanted to affiliate with junior team in their home base of Owen Sound slated Sturgeon We lost a potential pool because of the loss of the affiliation with Owen Sound continued Sturgeon and maybe our guys lost a little bit of incentive as well As well pointed Sturgeon some veteran players didnt come through as we thought they would have so we have struggled there have been major obstacles But I still have faith in our guys and right now we are concen trating on two main areas said Sturgeon Number one is effort all the lime every shift every and every game The cond area were working on is con tinuing with a positive attitude We have to believe that things will im prove Around this time last year Raiders had just recorded a three- point week and were solidly in fourth place in the leagues West Division standings with points just a single point behind fourth- place and six points ahead of fifthplace Blades The losses this past week to Brampton Capitals and Burlington Cougars drops the Raiders season record to 320 and last place in the West Division standings 10 points behind sixthplace Brampton Sturgeon has already wiped the slate on the 121 loss to Brampton We were totally flat said Sturgeon in an understatement The whole team we were just not ourselves from the nets on out Curtis Green worked the whole game againsl Brampton in the Raiders nets while Brent Presswood off passes from Chris Lazarowff and Marty Savoy scored the lone Georgetown goal Consistency game in and game out has been a another Raider shortcoming this year and it ap peared a totally different outfit that challenged the West Divisions thirdplace Cougars on Saturday evening This time the Raiders came to play The first period ended in a scoreless tie and the contest was knotted at 1 1 after minutes of pi a Burlington turned on the after burners in the third period to the Raiders and claim the hardearned 52 win Green once again worked a full 60 minutes in the Raiders nets and put in some outstanding work making saves to but for his counterpart in the Burlington net John Williamson and Adam Hagen were the Raiders marksmen against Burlington with Brent Presswood and Chris drawing assists The Raiders next home game is Thursday Dec 28 and it will be Kids night at Gordon Alcott Memorial Arena The Raiders and the Georgetown Minor Hockey Association in cooperation with area merchants are handing out free admission tickets to children Along with the ticket stub is a lucky number and prizes will be handed out to the children in attendance Raiders will host Streetsville Derbys in the pm scheduled start Sunny Acres Farms Lights go out in third period A third period collapse handed Sunny Acres Farms major midgets hockey team only their third loss of the season Sunday afternoon at Gordon Memorial Arena as topped the locals As is their habit Sunny Acres started out slowly and fell behind 10 after the first period Four Georgetown second period goals with but a single reply from appeared to give Sunny Acres Farms a comfortable lead heading into the third period normally the time when the Sunny Acres squad puts away the opposition turned the tables however on Sunday by scoring four times while blanking Georgetown to skate away with the 64 win The loss dropped Sunny Acres Farms season record to still the class of their Tri County division Jim English Mark Lorito Brad and Rob Lang shared in the Georgetown scoring Rob Boyle had a pair of assists while single helpers went to English Lorito Jake and Rich Bond Peter Downs manned the pipes for Sunny Acres Farms against Chinguacousy Sunny Acres Farms had a game Monday evening in at press time the
