manager Bill kept the team busy with practices and exhibition games after being knocked out of OMHA playoffs by Milton This past Sunday Georgetown entered the game as an underdog team against Flamboro who had beaten the home team soundly on two previous occasions in league play Much to s surprise Star Fuels took a lead in the first minute of play on a shot from the point by Chris that re bounded to Pete Mashinter who netted the goal Robbie Pilgrim earned an assist on this goal With only 50 seconds left in the first period tied it up Not to be outdone Georgetown sec with 22 seconds remaining on a goal by Darin with assists going to Andy and Keith Hunt Halfway through the second period Georgetown went ahead by two goals Corney passed to Mashinter who took the puck up from centre ice and rebounded a hard shot off the goalies blocker Hunt followed through with a goal off the rebound One minute later Georgetown scored again after a hard fought goalmouth scramble Garry McNiven netted the marker with assists going to Pilgrim and Cor to put our home team ahead A slight lapse In the third period saw Flamboro score three con secutive goals to tie the game with only five minutes remaining With three minutes left in the game the visitors took a penalty which allowed a chance for a powerplay Ryan Taylor earned the puck over the blue line and set up Pete Mashinter with a nice pass into the slot lyiashinter then scored on a high wrist shot into the top left corner Jamie Bnggs also assisted on this goal that turned out to be the game winner then scored an in suranoe goal on a tricky corner shot with assists going to Pilgrim and McNiven Andrew Craig played a strong game between the pipes stopping many Flamboro attempts This was a total team effort Other members contributing to the win not previously mentioned were Ken Armstrong Chris Goodhew and Stephen Markham Geoffrey Beauparlant Star Fuel s other goalie cheered the team on awaiting his turn in the next game tomorrow against convincing win over Oakville and a very close vie tory over a stubborn squad At Arena on Saturday the talent of the Bodanis Brums simply prevailed against Oakville Jamie Stephenson and Stephen Onopnjenko sparked the Major offence with two goals each Gavin Glaser was prominent as he chipped with a goal and two assists Two points were earned by Mark Aldndge on a goal and an assist and Doug Sheppard and Jim Kat sihens who each notched two helpers Single goals were recorded by Brent Wilkinson and Stephen Blaine and Minor Peewee Sandy Davidson closed out the scoring with an assist apiece Chad Hughes was very solid in the Georgetown net In on Sunday the Bodanis Bruins were unable to crank up their offence With the pressure on goaltender John Waller played a strong game McCauley tied the game 1 late in the second period on a goal assisted by Aldndge and Glaser Duke Bouskill scored two late third period markers to ensure the Ma jor Peewee victory Sheppard and Wilkinson earned assists on the first goal and Glaser counted the lone helper on the final score ACTON GOALTENDER Jake Rhynold smothers the puck and stops action during play In the 1990 20th Annual Acton Branch 197 Royal Canadian Legion House League Hockey Tournament staged over the weekend at the Acton Community Centre Acton defeated Erin in this game with registering the shutout Unfortunately Acton was eliminated from further play after losing 1 to Ml Forest Herald photo Parkdale wins Acton tourney Parkdale emerged as the A Division Grand Champion on the heels of a 7 win over the team from Hamilton while Stoney Creek claimed B Division Grand Championship honors by blanking Coronation from Hamilton in the division final following a weekend chock full of action in the 20th Annual Acton Branch Royal Canadian Legion House League Hockey Tourna ment staged at the Acton Com munity Centre Nineteen teams in two divisions competed for tournament laurels that saw games played Friday night Saturday and Sunday at the Acton Community Centre The Acton representative ran in to stiff opposition in the form of an inspired Mt Forest team and was eliminated from further play following a second game 7 loss to Forest In Acton s first contest of the tourney the Leathertown crew blanked Enn A team from Clarkson was sup posed to round out the 20team field but pulled out at the last minute Acton took on Brampton an A Division squad in an exhibition game Friday evening but bowed In the exhibition game loss to Brampton Schuster on a pass from Jason Lowne scored the lone Acton goal John Oliver Dave Garcia Jason Marks and James D scored for Brampton Jay McDanlel and Brad Fisher scored the goals to get Acton off to a flying 2 tournament start over Enn with Lisa Harlow Scott Yates and Jason drawing assists Jake earned the shutout in the Acton nets The win moved Acton over to the championship side of play but it also meant that a loss would relegate the team to spectator status This unfortunately was the scenario that unfolded for an outgunned Acton squad against Mt Forest Jamie Goy converted a pass from Lisa Harlow to count Acton s only goal Two players did most of the damage for Forest Tyler Tunney notched a hat and Mark Ciszewski scored twice for the winners with singles going to Brad McGukin and Craig Sugden In the A Division champion ship game Eric Ellis proved too much for to handle win over Belmont Gerret Linesman Mike Brown Jed and Jeremy Kramer scored for St Clements Dan McPherson had a pair of goals for Belmont with Trevor Gammon counting a short handed marker Guelph Majors romped to a win over Guelph Minors in the A Division Consolation Champion ship game For the Guelph Majors Trevor Smith potted a hat tnck while Dan ny and Kevin Smith each scored two goals apiece Jason
