GO wont expand here soon Hills residents shouldnt expect an allday twoway GO train rail service in the near future Halton Regional Chairman Peter Pomeroy told members of the Regions planning and public works committee last Wednesday The province is moving towards expanding the Georgetown GO transit rail ser vice the provinces Minister of Transportation William said at a press conference in Toronto April 5 But chairman who attended the press conference said the extended service Is a low priority for the province He told committee members the proposed expansion wont happen for about the next ten years Necessary track reconstruction is one problem discouraging the province from introducing the all day two way service to Georgetown sooner the chairman said The province has allotted million to the GO transit rail pro ject which besides Georgetown includes similar services for Milton Richmond Hill and StouvUle The million is over and above the normal amount of fun ding the province provides the municipalities annually for roads highways GO transit and municipalities transit systems Mr said during the press conference The announcement as it per tains to Georgetown was part of the provinces extensive plan to ex pand the Toronto area transports system during the next ten years Other expansion plans to the GO train system benefitting Halton in clude an allday service to Pair- view station in Burlington by 1992 a new GO station at Road also in Burlington to begin this year improvements to the East line between Whit by and Oshawa and the extension of the GO train service to the downtown Hamilton station ac cording to a regional report Chamber manager resigns The Hills Chamber of Commerce is looking for a new general manager Mary Ann Chapman the current general manager handed in her resignation recently She will leave her May Ms Chapman accepted another job but she would not elaborate on the new position Ms Chapman acknowledged this isnt a good time to leave The landfill would have been twice the size of the pro posed Reclamations Systems Incorporated RSI Ac ton landfill The quarry would have had a capacity of between 30 to 40 tonnes of garbage while the Acton quarrys capacity is 18 million tonnes The Dufferin quarry is bordered s on the east by the First Line in Hills and in the west by the Sixth Line Milton Mayor Miller like the rest of Halton
