straight and narrow to dancing the Health Hustle Maureen Walker has had years of fun if not unusual years of service at Joseph Gibbons Public School Maureen actually started her career at the school a year before she arrived when she was hired to work as the secretary to Logan Maureen Walker retires this Friday but was at a retirement party held In her honor in the Gallery at the Helton Hills Cultural Centre Ms Walker was presented a brass anniver sary clock for her 20 years of service at the Joseph Gibbons Public School Herald photo MacDonald principal of Harrison Public School 21 years ago Mr MacDonald said at a recent retirement party held in the Gallery of the Halton Hills Cultural Centre Many times I thought I was fortunate that I hired her Ms Walker The head office asked Ms Walker to stay at Harrison and Mr MacDonald had to fight to keep her as his secretary since he was moving to the new Joseph Gibbons School At the retirement party he thanked Ms Walker because she kept me on the straight and narrow He noted at the beginning of Joseph Gibbons school there was no library or gymnasium and just a little bit of mud Another former Joseph Gibbons principal Doug Magwood related a rumour that had been circulating throughout the school for years that Ms Walker first entrance in to the school was through a win dow Rumour also has it that she said That one small step for a secretary one giant leap for Joseph Gibbons Mr Magood quipped Ms Walker later confirmed at least part of the rumour and said going through the window opening was quicker than going through the doors Maureen was a tremendous organizer another former pnn cipal of Joseph Gibbons Tom Gib son said She was mother and nurse for the students staff and most of all the principal he said One of the more unusual tivities that Mr Gibson and Ms Walker took part in was something called the Health Hustle he said It was part of a keep fit cam paign by the Halton School Board he explained It started with a
