offer a serious challenge at the championships scheduled for May and May at Nelson High School stadium in Burlington following competition in the Nelson Relays track and field meet held Friday at Nelson High School in Burlington The Rebels squad placed third overall in the field of 25 competing high schools from Hamilton and Regions and with a member contingent only about twothirds of the entire team held their own against some stiff com petition I m excited about this year s team chances said coach Bevin Clark following the Nelson Relays competition The team is just basically coming into its own and the athletes we took to Burlington were very competitive In fact I feel our strength as a team this season will come from our younger members who are holding up very well As witness Clark s praise of the relatively tyro track and field achievements Scott Hobbs won the midget boys long jump and combined with teammates Matt Matt Zuraw and Steve to win the midget boys relay event in a time of 1 seconds Other Rebel highlights included Lisa Carter second place finish in the senior girls high jump Kevin Dver second place finish in the senior boys 100 metre event and Taysha Brankewicz s third place position in the midget girls shot put A pair of Rebel senior boys metre relav teams finished third and fourth while two senior girls metre relay teams finished second and third Two key members Anna Toone who competes in the senior girls 100 and metre sprints and is also a member of the senior girls 4x100 and relay squads and Alexis Kerr who runs the junior girls and Open girls 4x400 relay events are nursing injuries but are expected to be able to soon contribute team points The Rebel Relay track and field meet was staged yesterday day at GDHS at press time results were not available This Friday and Saturday the Rebels track and field team will be competing at Etobicoke s Father Redmond Track Classic in for next week s Halton Championships The top six
