Rebel Relays Host team turns back challenges By COLIN GIBSON Herald Sports Editor Despite blustery wind conditions and cool temperatures that caused some discomfort to the competing athletes the Rebel Relays track and field meet staged Tues day at Georgetown District High School was termed an unqualified success by GDHS track and field coach Clark The Rebel Relays track and field meet has been in existence for years but according to Clark the 25 team turnout Tuesday translating into approximately competing athletes represented the largest gathering of runners and field event competitors in re cent memory With teams competing from peel Hamilton and Guelph regions the job of compiling com results turned into logistic nightmare and Clark was forced to admit that at press time this monumental ask had not been ful ly completed Highlights of the Rebels efforts included Cindy Kailo placing first in the senior girls javelin and Scott Hobbs leaping ahead of the field in the midget boys long jump and the midget boys triple jump Senior team member also grabb ed the spotlight in Open distance medley relays Rebel relay teams finished first and second in both the senior boys Open distance medley race and the senior girls Open distance medley race Members of the first place senior boys team included Bob Martin Davison Dave Lawrence and Mike Dyer Members of the senior girls first place team included Megan Sarah Mulholland Lisa Carter and Sarah Broughton The GDHS Rebels track and field team will be competing this Still good friends Friendly rivals GDHS Rebels track and Held teammates close behind in fourth place weekend at the Father Redmond Classic track and field meet in in perparation for the Halton championships scheduled for this coming Tuesday and day at Nelson High School stadium in Burlington Give the athletes credit said Clark and the Grade 13 Phys Ed students More than anything else they assured that the day was a success From an organizational stand point Clark lauded the efforts of Susan Subject and Kim We strongly urged the team members to enter a number of events noted Clark and the response was great Natalie Goldson in particular took the suggestion to heart enter seven track events Clark also tossed verbal bou quels to Knsty Johnson Steve Smith Becky Darby Erier and Heather Acton Redmen display talents The Acton High School track and field contingent which competed in Tuesday GDHS Rebel Relays might have been relatively small in numbers competitors but the individuals in action more than made their school presence felt Jennifer Scott made a definite impact in senior girls field events winning the long jump with a leap of 4 metres and the triple jump Redmen midget girls com petitor Tammy Richard won the discus event with a hurl of metres placed second in the junior girls discus with a toss of 23 metres and fifth in the junior girls shot put at a distance of metres Heather was third in the junior girls discus hurling the saucer metres and fourth in the junior girls shot put with a metre effort The senior boys spring team of Dave Osborne Mark La Bill Andrews and Rob Richmond placed fourth a time of Andrews was equally adept in the field events placing fifth in the triple jump with a leap of metres Mark was sixth in the senior long jump with a leap measured at 10 metres The track and f eld squad will be competing this
