Special Georgetown Halton Hills Trout Farm Major Tykes opened the regular season in on Tuesday night and we might not see a more exciting game all season Georgetown lost their three ex hibition games including a lopsid ed contest to this same team just over a week ago Manager Paul Kelly was in no way concerned about those results as he was trying everyone at all positions to find hts best lineup By Tuesday night he knew what he wanted Doug Inglis Mike Kel ly and Kevin Humeniski sharing the pitching Andrew Beavan and Stephen Gibbons handling the cat ching Wesley Blight Kelly and Isaac Ferguson playing the infield and Dylan Lee Gary Norman and the speedy Ryan Smith covering the outfield The game got underway under threatening skies and for the first time this season Georgetown drew first blood Gibbons broke out of his slump with a solid single to right He stole second and third on successive pitches Inglis walked to put runners at the comers and then drilled a solid single to left cashing in Gibbons from third with our first run Oakville came back with a run of their own in the bottom fo the inn ing and then took the lead in the se cond with two unearned runs In the top of the third inning in a steady rain mounted a rally Gibbons was again the spark that lit the fire as he opened with a sharp single to left Once again he stole second and third Kelly then walked and stole second Inglis came up and lofted a long sacrifice fly to left allowing Gibbons to score his second run of the game failed to count a run in their half of the inning or the fourth or the fifth as held them to just one hit over the middle inn ings With the game winding down Georgetown gave it one more shot opened the sixth with a walk and stole second Ryan Smith hit behind the runner for a perfect sacrifice as he moved Beauan to third Then Gary Norman cracked a double to bring Beauan home with the tying run Unfortunately Oakville went up in the bottom of the inning and hung on to win as they recorded the final out with Georgetowns tying run at third base Manager Paul Kelly and coaches Steve Norjnan and Jeff Hannah were thrilled with the effort our boys gave Doug Inglis pitched the entire six innings allowing just 4 hits and earned run recording six strikeouts along the way In ad dition he teamed with Mike Kelly to turn a double play at third and picked a runner off first to end the fifth inning For his efforts he was picked as the player of the game Oakville ran the bases ag gressively all night but when a run ner at third strayed off the bag on a grounder up the right side Kevin made the play at first and zipped the ball across the dia mond to Kelly He threw a strike to the plate where Stephen Gibbons applied the tag for our second dou ble play of the game In a very short time these boys have come together as a team and look to be in for a good summer One player who is not very happy is Daniel Young He took a pitch off his hand in the Brampton game and although he stayed in that game his hand has since swollen such that he cannot hold a bat For his great play at shortstop on Friday and his gutsy performance with an injured hand he earned last weeks player of the game and injured or not he was sitting on the bench in Oakville supporting his teammates and organizing the wave
