Page 26 THE HERALD Wedneada June 27 GBA MAJOR TYKES Trout Farmers hit their stride ByDAVEBEAVAN Herald Special Hills Trout Farm Major Tykes baseball team travelled to East York this past weekend for a threeday tournament and came up with excellent results On Friday night the boys took on Grand in a game which was played m a downpour Although the boys have played extremely well at times this year and have led by as many as six runs in the middle innings of games the competition has been very tough and until this weekend the team had yet to win a game Kevin opened the game with a triple and was driven home by Stephen Gibbons for our first run Not content to stay at second base Gibbons stole third Garret Norman then walked and stole se cond to put two runners in scoring position for Doug Doug showed us some power by belting a long home run to deep right field for 3 RBI In the second inning with Georgetown up col lected his second straight hit with a solid single Gibbons then hit behind the run ner and moved Kevin to second When the infield got sloppy Kevin continued on to third and then came home on a past ball In the third inning Inglis again got into the act as he singled and stole second and third before com ing home on another past ball With the skies threatening and the time approaching 8 the time after which no new inning can start manager Paul Kelly told our boys this was their last at bat and since they were down they bet score some runs The good guys really exploded as they scored nine runs in the inning Doug collected his RBI of the game and Humemski a run double The remaining runs were scored on heads up base running on past balls The bottom of the inning was a classic as the opposition went down in order on two ground balls and a popup It was cold wet and almost dark but the Georgetown players coaches and supporters t care The first win of the year couldn have come at a bet ter time For his home run tnple and single and four Doug collected Player of the Game honors for the second time this season This win meant that a victory on Saturday in one of the two games could advance Georgetown to the playoffs on Sunda In the morning game in weather more suitud to November the good guys just never got started and took it on the chin from Green wood and Humemski knocked our only two runs That loss mean we would have to beat the pretournament favourite to advance When our boys arrived at the mond the pitcher was warming up and it was a scary thing to watch The ball was coming fast that when it hit the catcher mitt it sounded like gunfire In the first inning Andrew greeted the with a lazy double Perhaps unnerved the pitcher hit the next batter Mike Kelly tc put men at first and second Ingli then singled to load the bases Ryan Smith walked and brought in our first run That was the only run we would score until the fourth even though we loaded the bases with none out in the third In the fourth inning the good guys trailed when Isaac Ferguson came to the plate He greeted a new Agincourt pit cher with a single and then promp tly stole second Humemski then walked and stole second Up stepped Mr RBI Doug and he came through with his second homer of the tournament to tie the game at Unfortunately the Agincourt bats then came alive and they managed seven runs over the last three innings for the victory With a couple more timely hits the result could have been dif as Georgetown stranded eight runners Mike Kelly was voted Player of the Game for the second time this season as he held the opposition scoreless through the middle inn while recording four strikeouts In other recent action Georgetown took a lead into the fifth inning before bowing to Milton 2011 Ryan Smith was the Player of the Game as he had hits scored runs and made a
