Arena recently to take pictures of the first AAA hockey tryouts Do ing so I couldnt help but think about now many more times I will be passing through those doors this winter Hockey is my favourite sport Even years of being a true Maple Leaf fan have failed to damper my enthusiasm for the game so Im looking forward to covering the many different hockey groups that play here in Georgetown Im not just enthusiastic about reporting on the games I cant wait to lace on the blades and play some shin Again in a hockey town such as this I wasnt surprised to learn there were a few- leagues that catered to recreational hockey I dont know exactly what it is about the sport but I enjoy wat ching almost any team play hence the years of visiting the Gardens in TO I know Alex Tough will disagree but I find hockey more interesting to watch than soccer I enjoy soccer especially when there is a particularly good ball handler turning the opposition in side out but I think part of the en joyment is that part of the game closely parallels a forward racing across centre ice on a twoonone play The player can either pass or try to or even shoot think its the variety of things that can happen in a hockey game that make its that much more in teresting to watch Heck sometimes the fights are better than what Wide World of Sports has to offer Where baseball my second favourite is more often one player against another pitcher vs batter hockey moves much more quickly and involves more of the team much more often Basketball is alright but beyond playing HORSE or 21 I never got that interested in making it a team effort when I was in school True theres not much that can beat see ing Michael Jordan slam one in on a replay but on the other hand its something far beyond what a per son of my height or dribbling could ever accomplish I think most people are the same way about the sport they find to be their favourite Whichever one they played well in their more youthful days or when they had the time to play them more they tend to carry in their hearts forever If you cant play the game anymore you watch it or referee it Just kidding I couldnt resist Anyhow I just had to express my pleasure and pleasant anticipation about the upcoming hockey season and I hope the fans will have as much fun watching their favourite teams play as much as I will See you m the stands Canadian Power
