registration down this year Registration for minor hockey in Georgetown is down by over 100 children this year with just signed up so far while joined last year As a result this is the first year that the Georgetown Minor Hockey Association has run five registra tion nights the last one being on Sept Bat Alcott Arena Judy Pries one of the GMHA organizers said the last registra tion in August drew new skaters which has made her op timistic that more will turn out later Weve also predicted that well lose about kids to the Triple A hockey so we are planning to in crease our training programmes Hopefully this will encourage peo ple to join house league in order to develop themselves to play rep hockey later She said it will take some educa tion of the parents to get them used to this idea since many of them have been strictly involved with house league for a number of years Pries also said the association is looking for more referees and a few coaches to fill the ranks this year as Association is still looking for more people to join their ranks including coaches referees and con venors to make this season even more successful than last Herald photo Ice time is at a premium People looking for some ice time this year should sign up soon because the spaces are filling up fast Doug Vivian manager of The Gordon Memorial Arena said the schedule is already pretty tight with pm being the earliest time available on average Right now we have some times open at 900 and 930 in the even ings during the week but after Labor Day its around 11 00 There are many groups who use up large time slots at the arena in cluding the Figure Skating Club the Georgetown Raiders Junior team other recreational leagues the house leagues and even the Ac ton Sabres Junior C team The Sabres are using it for practice since their arena doesnt get their ice in until after Thanksgiving said Vivian As soon at the Sabres leave those spaces are filled up with more house league games leaving the schedule booked fairly solid In the before winter really sets in Vivian said the cost of rentals run per hour between 400pm and midnight After midnight the price drops by an hour During the day is a good time since its half price bet ween and400pm He also pointed out that people who just want to do a little skating can take advantage of the adult noon skate which is on Tuesdays and Fridays from noon until pjn Cost is just 7M We also have a parent and tot skate on the same days from 1000 am to noon on Tuesdays and from 100 pm to 300 pm on Fridays Cost is Its nice for them to be able to come skaters are welcome to join with the option of skating once a week as a beginner or as many as three times a week as a senior The beginner skater will start in the Canskate Program where the fun of skating are introduced Helmets are highly recommended at this level Badges are received as each skill is achieved then skaters may move on to the Program where you may begin taking the Canadian Figure Skating tests There are usually two test days during the season and these are evaluated by judges from the CFSA Last year the club introduced a Power Skating session which will be offered again this
