Raiders started off their exhibition schedule on Thursday evening at Alcott Arena with a shootout against Elmira which ended up in an 88 tie The visitors got on the board first but the Raiders tied it up less than a minute later when they scored a shorthanded goal Raider left winger Chris scored two goals in the contest the first on a powerplay in the opening period to make the score However while was cooling his heels the penalty box for high sticking and an unsportsmanlike call Elmira took advantage and scored two quick powerplay markers to go up and eventually take a lead into the dressing room at the end of the first Charlie Humber got things going for his team when he pumped in an unassisted goal at 15 of the se cond frame His brother Scott followed up with the next goal on a three minutes later to close the margin to Since the Raiders are searching intensely for a solid unit coach Gary gave three of his hopefuls one period each to show their stuff Ted Hod son started the game and though he allowed five goals coach dyen said it was a tough period for the net minder due to the penalties and satd he only saw one soft goal The other goalies Steve Saltzman and Dave Sinclair got a good look as well but were released by the team recently Raiders president Finn said the team has one possible starting goalie already in Paul St Pierre but there are still quite a few prospects to look at eluding other positions as well In the third period Jason Mercer came up with a goal to make it a close game at 3 but replied with a goaf of their own during a situation to stay two up at However the Raiders refused to quit especially Mercer who net ted another marker on the Lazaroff made his presence known on the scoreboard again putting in his second of the game to tie the contest at 7 Mercer got the goahead goal at 16 24 which made it a three goal night for the speedy forward The home side tried to shut down the Elmira offence to preserve the win but the visitors managed to get the final word scoring with just over a minute to play Tensions were high in this game with both teams receiving over 40 minutes in penalties each Though they are still looking for goalies the fact
