THE HERALD OUTLOOK Saturday Septembers Page Fall a busy time for fundraising seniors By BUSS BETHEL Generally at this time of year people speak of having lazed through the summer doldrums and now is the season to get back into a higher level of activity Somehow the Fund Raising Committee of the Georgetown and District Seniors Association seem to have missed out on these lazy hazy days It has been a busy time as well as a rewarding time both activity and accomplishment As we all know the Georgetown Fall Fair saw the Seniors Bake Sale back again An event of this kind doesn t just happen but re quires a lot of advance planning and effort Let s say Thanks to all Fund Raising Committee members and volunteers who organized this event to the Telephone Committee for soliciting and arranging for the baked goods to those who staffed and assisted in the booth opera tions and to those who were generous in their baking andor cash donations Special thanks to those outside our Association who helped particularly to the Sons of Scotland who again provided their booth for our use to Ms Chris Vale a local realtor for a generous donation to the Fair Site fee to Holy Cross Church for again providing folding tables for the booth and to both A and P Stores and Neilson s Dairy for generous donations of booth sup plies and equipment The bottom line good news was that after all expenses we added over to our building pro ject fund more than a in crease over last year Also at the Fair the Committee sold the last of the raffle tickets which had been an ongoing summer project This had added a further to our funds This beautiful blue and white was created and donated by Mrs of Georgetown Our thanks to her Our thanks also to Dr Bar Good lime Show for mak ing an event of drawing the lucky name which tuned out to be Richard You may have seen in other newspaper stones that the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce ven hire into a tourist information at Speyside reached what ap pears to have been a successful summer conclusion on Labour Day Certainly successful from our viewpoint in that last Wednesday September in a brief ceremony at the Arena the Chamber presented us with a cheque for 240 The Acton Seniors who shared this volunteer effort with the Georgetown Seniors received a similar fund assist Again this venture which was organized quickly on short notice was due to the efforts of many The member ship owes a debt of gratitude to the volunteers who took part and particularly Mrs Florence Smith who was there nine times Mary Persons 7 times and Grant Greenaway times Also a special thankyou is due to Mrs Alice Greenaway who coordinated the project and spent hours at the telephone recruiting volunteers to fill the vacancies After all for staffing an information centre who knows Halton Hills better than our Seniors Contract awarded Halton Regional Planning and Public Works Committee recom mended Wednesday that the con company Wellington Con struction Limited build the iron removal facility at the Tenth Line Plumbing Station in Hills Regional Council wilt vote on the recommendation Wednesday The construction company s estimate of was the lowest bid of 13 companies but it was still more than the Region had budgeted according to a Regional Public Works report Money from the Region Capital Reserve Fund and Residential Lot Levy will be used to make up the difference the report indicates for Now our sights and plans look in to the fall and winter seasons A timely reminder that the GDSA will have a crafts table at the Holy Cross Bazaar to be held in the Church Hall on November 3 We are depending on the rich pool of talent and skills of our members to provide a diversity of attractive crafts Please help out by donating examples of your favourite crafts and hobbies You can call Siena chairperson of Fund Raising at 877 3235 or any member of the Committee Also it is tune for many of us to renew our membership support for the 199091 season If you have not yet done so on your membership anniversary date you will receive a call in due course from a Membership Committee member or canvasser This is a big project We would also like to think that our membership which now stands at over could be increased to that magic number of members You can contact your Membership Committee by calling Ross Bethel at 1105 Alice Gray at 2814 or your previous canvasser con tact All the foregoing as will be realized on a little reflection represents one part of our tion activities The Buildmg and Planning Committee has continued with its for the moment lower visibility activities The Public Relations Committee will be look to renew its efforts For your Board of Directors and for the Ex ecutive Committee is has been a very full and busy summer in many respects satisfying and in some frustrating in our continuing efforts toward a Seniors Centre for Georgetown But that is a separate story and report in itself What all of this points up with a growing association with an in creasing level of activity is the need for more members to come forward into active participation and to share the load Everyone has talents in some area Par the Committees as men tioned need additional working members with new ideas to pro vide both strength and to maintain committee numbers Lets hear from you OPEN HOUSED TASTING PARTY Come Celebrate With Us
