Volleyball earn won their season opening tournament at E Drur on Oct This was the 10th annual Sam Sherratt tournament organized teacher and coach Linda Bobar The tournament hosted 20 teams from schools The Stew art town Stingers finished first in their pool by defeating Centennial Smith and Sam Sher ratt schools to advance into the semi finals In this match they won both sets defeating the Sam Sherratt A team and ad to the championship Cross country success at Halton championships Herald Special The Georgetown District High School cross team emerged from last week s v ith respectable honors Leading the were Johnson with first in the midget girls three km race and a first for Dan Campbell in the senior 8 The senior boys team also cap tured 1st place honors following Dan Campbell third at cross country event Elementary school students from the Georgetown area counted well for themselves at en country meets held at Creek Park earlier this earning one second and third place finishes The Junior Country meet held on Oct 10 ftatured schools includ students Out of this up Kennedy School third in the Atom Girls division followed Park School eorge Kennedv School also J i well the Bantam Boys up finishing fifth overall LaRose s third place out of 193 others in the Ban group helped his school earn that ranking ishley of Harrison came in fourth in the Ban Girls section out of other racers Mark of Har earned a third place finish in the Atom Boys division and Ballard of Pineview plac ed fifth in the Atomn Girls On Oct 15 the Halton County Senior Cross Country meet was held at Bronte Creek which hosted 18 schools and students competitors Stewarttown School won a se cond place finish in the junior girls division followed by Centennial School in sixth Ctntenmal also did well in the junior bovs section getting a 10th place finish which was of Acton Smith School in 13th Centennial and Smith each other again in the Intermediate this time with the Acton school finishing ahead in and Centennial in 14th Centennial did well in the senior and girls division placing third in the girls and sixth in the boys placed 14th in the senior boys followed by McKenzie Smith in 16th School dominated in the Junior Girls individual rates with a fifth place showing from Bridget sixth from Katie and ninth from out f racers Centennial followed suit with two good finishes in the Senior Orangeville and Stoney Creek After losing some of their big guns to triple A the Black Machines got an unlucky schedule having to play the big and strongest teams first while still trying to regroup Sunday Georgetown s Black Machines met Brampton Chris Hall started for Georgetown and made some great glove saves Joey Barber was no slouch m net the second half of the game when he stopped more than his fair of pucks Dan and Mike MaddjJJ had many chances m front of Brampton net but just slide one by their goalie Jeff Telford and Nathan Martin played tough at the Georgetown blueline Jeff slipped into over dnve to get a shot on Brampton net but the goalie caught a piece of the puck to send it into the cor Just into the second period Geoff who moved up front for this game had had enough and let a quick fast shot from the blueline go beating the goalies glove hand and putting Georgetown on the scoreboard Judd Richardson tested Bramp ton goalie a few times but just find an opening Dave and Joey have begun to click as defence partners they sent Brampton back to the end a few times slipped into overdrive in the second period and rushed end to end then pass ed to Adim who fired it home into Brampton s net to make the score for Brampton The third period saw the Black Machines tiring and Brampton drove oil for a 7 2 win Black Machines in training Ryan Booth and Bryan Naimore have been showing great sportsmanship supporting their teammates at each home game These boys show lots of hustle in practices The whole team is also wishing Andy Telford a speedy recovery after breaking his
